  • to be fair the BND / BNetzA (German equivalents of MI5/6 and GCHQ) appear to have classed me as “mostly harmless” in spite of me creating two security alerts in DE since 1992 – as well as remotely accessing Munich Technical University’s library computer to access the WWW-server at Switzerland the more recent one was in 2001 when my former employers sent me to Berlin via München [have a look on a map to see how absurd a route this is] carrying two mobile phones (one personal one + my work one) and various cables and electronic test equipment so that I could help set up the transmission control system for the Turkish TV channel in Berlin.

The Immigration Control soon realised I couldn’t be a terrorist and only the British would do such a bizzare thing as this and were more worried I might have brought in British meat products to eat (which of course I hadn’t) as there was a Europe wide foot and mouth scare…

TBH as some German politicians are considering offering British tech workers dual nationality post Brexit I am seriously considering looking into this as the border areas of DE/NL and DK are much better places for a chap to spend his middle years than England (they let you get away with more as you get older) :laugh_at:

Today I learnt that I smashed up an key fob entry box for the building I live in oops lol

So, [username], what have you learnt today? Be it mind blowing, rather strange or just plain boring…..

Today I’ve learnt how to make my own mods for ETS2, going to be making a new skin for my truck. woo.

I have learned this past week to just keep my feelings and thoughts to myself unless asked otherwise. No matter how bad I feel, I shouldn’t put it on other people to listen to my crap. I would rather talk about them, not me. It’s just easier and better for everyone that way.

“lightweight, miniature” computer equipment seems to gain some kilos in this heat, especially when you have to haul it up and down flights of steps and then re-mount a touch screen monitor recovered from another site to a wall cabinet (as it has an unusual bracket instead of the standard VESA mounts)

Summer has finally arrived in Britain, although with random thunderstorms, gusts of wind and rural mains power disturbances – which is why I had to swap these damn things over in the first place (miniature PC’s with touchscreens (linked to the patients database system) that fit into a wall mounted “medicine cabinet”, one touchscreen monitor has a faulty power supply and its associated PC has got its config completely hosed up, probably due to a hard shutdown caused by the last power cut)

TDIL that Donald Trump is the Republican nominee, gotta wait and see till next week for the Democrat nominee. Politics and the Illuminati got me worried.

Currently in the UK we have Teresa May trying to be a “Tesco Value Thatcho 1.5” and much misplaced nostalgia for the 1980s (which is at least partly the reason why the Tories got back in and Brexit happened) so its not surprising Americans may be trying to do the same.

History certainly can repeat itself – although I wasn’t quite expecting it to happen that quickly within my own lifetime!

is the PC at the floor level???

it is wall mounted at about 1,2m above floor level (I think what it is in would be called une armoire à pharmacie in French) although it is a cheap one you might have in the bathroom., the real meds cabinets at my work are solid metal in secure areas.

I had to take the photo at an odd angle for privacy reasons so that nothing other than the computer and some generic advice from the health service is visible; one reason why we use these cabinets is so they can be closed when not in use or the doors used to prevent unauthorised people looking at the screens which would normally contain confidential info.

The first jump she fell on her ass and hurt her ankle, the second vault she managed to raise her arms over her head after landing (while hopping on one foot). This action of raising your hands over your head shows the judges that the jump is done.

there is an interesting (but long) article below from the British Guardian news – about the history of all this, containing a picture of white separatists from 1959.

I happen to be a former broadcast engineer and one thing I immediately noticed was the microphone the pro-segregation activist is using with his PA system – a setup like that would have cost thousands of dollars in the 1950s (easily as much as any truck or motor car used to transport it) and would be extremely advanced tech for the era. Clearly whoever these people were they were not “dumb poor rednecks”. He is flanked by other men holding similarly professional microphones who I suspect are radio or TV reporters – whilst you cannot immediately judge how partisan they may have been “embedded journalists” have been a part of activism for many decades and unfortunately the use of advanced tech by well funded extremists to spread their propaganda is not at all a new thing.

Those folks pander to dumb rednecks but certainly don’t fit the stereotype themselves often holding lots of family wealth, prestige and history. The media is usually biased to some extent although its hard to tell whether this is inherent and from shared viewpoints or as a function to increase ratings and such.
