BTW the report is for the 2011 event.
This years is this weekend. I though it might have already happened but it would have been a bit odd not to see the crime reports.
seriously though things are really getting bad here when people get together in groups. I was dismayed to see how many stupid fights broke out at events my younger friends who run a local rig put on – they didn’t like it either but being younger didn’t want to let “bad news get them down” (in the end they lost their venue anyway because worse people did worse things at another event).
Incidentally “safe, friendly” Latitude still has outstanding rapes cases at Suffolk Constabulary now going cold (with a good chance the attacker gets away unless someone finds their conscience and informs on a friend) and there was one false allegation.
I was in ASDA the weekend after this years Latitude and two of the local youths from my estates were talking to another lad about it, I overheard them say “fights were breaking out, people were getting arrested all over the place and we left as we weren’t feeling comfortable” – and if kids from my estate do a runner from somewhere because of violence and arrests it really must have been getting on top.
what is really worrying is that folk are blaming pills for the trouble, and in this region we do not get completely shit pills, in fact they are often better than in other regions. However its not always true that pills make everyone loved up, even good ones can make folk sketchy and paranoid or if they are really aggressive can make them worse. Seen it happen, and not even in Essex, in Reading during so-called “better” times..

many centuries ago when the Protestants and Puritans had almost absolute political and economic power in this region, Britain was a powerful seafaring nation with a growing Empire. What do you think they did with all the criminals and other scum they did not want here, but whose crimes did not quite warrant the death penalty? 😉
BTW current update – 250+ medical casualties at the Staffordshire event. Casualty count from Chelmsford unknown, but knowing Virgin’s skills at spin I wonder if they are releasing the midlands numbers first to hide a greater incident count in Essex?
In Essex, the cops are dealing with a murder case at a private party just outside the festival grounds..
Grauniad reports on incidents at both festivals (they do tend to sometimes put on too much positive spin about the music scene but balance this by being a good source for high quality crime reporting without being overly sensationalist)
Please note that until post mortems are concluded there is no proof the young man who died at staffordshire took drugs. Many young people die from heart conditions they are not aware of until its too late especially when at high stress activities like playing sports or being in a field with 20 000 strangers.

Cher Lloyd pelted with bottles of urine at V festival
Cher Lloyd was bottled off stage at last night’s V festival, ending the concert early. The 19-year-old singer was reportedly in tears after she was hit with bottles filled with urine.
Despite having no trouble at V’s first night, in Staffordshire, the Swagger Jagger singer faced an unruly crowd when she appeared in Chelmsford in Essex. Two songs into her set, Lloyd was struck by a bottle and walked off stage. When she reappeared, she asked the audience to behave: “It’s hard enough being up here, but it’s not nice having bottles of piss chucked at you,” she said.
But the crowd was unrelenting. More missiles landed on stage and Lloyd called the whole thing off. “Thank you so much for all the nice messages, shame that a couple of people had to ruin it,” she wrote on Twitter. “Tomorrow is another day.”
On BBC’s Panorama in February, Lloyd spoke about the cyber-bullying she has experienced since she appeared on The X Factor in 2010. “There have been many times when I’ve cried myself to sleep,” she said of the insulting tweets, Facebook comments, and a death threat against her mum. “I think these people need help. To do that to someone, there’s got to be something wrong with you. It sounds strange but I feel sorry for them.”

can none of her agents or close protection security read? this is a known problem at this event. also is it really essential for her to have a twitter account, its not unknown that teenagers are angry, envious and bully one another…
back in the day when there were raves and better drugs East Anglians wouldn’t have done this – they would be more likely to drink their piss to get more value out of the drugs :laugh_at: (they are related to vikings what did stuff like this)
update on the Chelmsford murder at the nearby house party – 10 men remanded in custody (a very large amount!)
The victim is a local graphic designer – from what I have found out so far about the chap he was intelligent, articulate, talented and in good physical shape – unfortunately in this region especially in less controlled situations it can attract haters to the point things like this happen….
I can confirm its a chav paradise, went las’t year, had a good time but ye it felt too comercial and full of people only there to say they’ve been there not for the music.
Got a feeling its gonna be worse this year though, going to creamfield, love the music, but apparently its a chav fest. I’m just gonna try and make some cool chill friends on the Friday as there not much going on. Hopefully the scallys won’t bother me too much whilst i’m rollin ha
I think the sad facts are that music events are only begrudgingly tolerated in modern Britain. if you were to plot a map of socially deprived areas of the UK and where events get licensed you’d find the areas matched up about 80% of the time – those in power hate them so much they are usually balkanised into areas with either crime problems or not enough other businesses to fund the local economy. its got worse since my generation got into power because those who have been elected are the ones what studied whilst folk like me partied and they want their revenge now.
it is apparently “more up market” here in Suffolk and my town (Ipswich) is doing well in spite of the economic depression as is nearby Felixstowe and it is near impossible to get any kind of night time music event licensed especially one what can go on after midnight. Especially as the ports and normal seaside bring in more cash with less hassle.
v festival is a good festival but i like folk music festival
