As soon as the customers saw that it was a British Asian owned business, they walked away without a word and a handshake and literally got back in their cars and drove all the way to London. This wasn’t in 1952 or 1982 (where perhaps it might have been expected) but 2012.
Pardon my French, but what the fuck? That just sounds very, very strange, petty, and childish.

I was equally shocked by it (although it was actually in a 2012 news report but happened in January 2010, which from memory was also a bitterly cold winter)
Today I would be more surprised if I dealt with an engineering firm in Birmingham and there wasn’t at least one British Asian there :laugh_at:
According to Iqbal, things are not improving. “Just a couple of years ago, we had a very big meeting at our place where some multinational companies were present. This was in January during a major snow situation and people drove for several hours in the snow to get to our factory.
“As soon as a couple of individuals walked in and they saw that we were coloured, they literally turned round, walked back out and drove back down to London.”
I really feel bad for those people. It’s the kind of thing people should not suffer in the 21st century, especially in a professional environment. I am lucky in the sense that, seeing as my “race” (If we can call Jews a race) isn’t externally identifiable, so most of the racism I see is more general distrust and tends to be confined to the internet. Being discriminated against on the basis of what you look like is just laziness.
