    Thanks.

download and install avast free (http://www.avast.com)

once installed it will ask if you want to perform a ‘boot time scan’
say yes and let it work its magic

next boot it will fully scan your system before windows has loaded, thus irradicating and latent virus/trojans

you might want to disable AVG or even uninstall it

nice one, cheers mate. ill give it a go when i get home.

I’ve checked up on win32/puce.D and it’s not a nasty. It’s also widely known so Avast should have no problems dealing with it.

When you are doing the ‘boot time scan’ (blue screen with white writing scanning your drives), when it finds the virus/trojan it will stop and ask what you wish to do with it and give 9 options. Choose ‘repair’ for the infected svchost.exe file all other files choose ‘delete’.
One booted into windows, update Avast immediately and then find the option to run another boot time scan and reboot. Just to be sure.

There is a small chance that Avast will not fix you, so be prepared for some harsh reality registry fixing (I’ll have a look for a win32/puce.D removal tool for you now) or the best option which is to backup your data and reinstall windows.

Like I said the virus you have aint a baddy, just inconvenient so you are safe to backup your music etc to a safe place and use it in the future.

In my experience AVG is not at all filesharing friendly.

is avast the best one to use for filesharing then? is avast a antivirus as well like avg? or are there better (free) antivirus programs out there?thanks again

yes avast is antivirus like AVG
in fact imo it is better than AVG
you will need to disable or uninstall AVG to use avast

I am 99% sure it will fix your virus, so give it a go.

so long as its not this fucker..

Anti-virus firms are warning about a Windows worm called Sober that is starting to spread widely online. The virus emerged at the weekend and is multiplying because so many versions of Windows are vulnerable.

Many people are thought to be falling victim to it because one version poses as an update from anti-virus firms.

It also tries to hide by using many different subject lines in both German and English and by changing the name of the payload holding the virus.

go there, download the free, home version
you can use it for 60 days then you have to register it (for free) with your email address

it is not a virus, its a program loads of us use as it is pirate friendly (in a good way)

not everyone is out to fuck over your computer, in fact the opposite is true

its been my life mission to get control back to the end user

my advice is here now, take it or leave it

i didnt mean you were trying to fuck with my comp abnd getting me to d/l dodgy shit. i meant so long as the VIRUS isnt that sober worm thing.

I thought the SOBER thing ringed bells. Yeah thats old hat, easy to get rid of.

Another good AV, probably the best is called NOD32, you have to pay for it (or get it a different way) but it is the most powerful yet small AV available.
Unfortunately it doesn’t scan fileshares.. so Avast is still my AV of choice.

my mate was telling me that there is a new virus thats just come out, he couldnt remember what it was called. no anti virus can stop it apparently. Thats what i thought that sober thing was when i searched it in google – oviously not.

lol scary virus urban legend !!

check this.. a year ago I was about to install the driver for my missus USB modem from BT and avast found a FUCKING KEYLOGGER VIRUS on the CD, genuine article from BT.
    What the fuck’s that about!!???

Seriously, most viruses in this day in age are just plain annoying.

The only thing I wouldn’t want to be hit by is a sub7 type of thing.
    But that’s neigh on impossible.

google sub7 to see what I mean.

he said he saw it on the news this morning apparently, or read it i cant remember… that sub7 sounds nasty. dont like the bit about hiding the cursor or loading porn pages!

not only that you can manage the victims files, open their cd tray, do the black screen green writing thing like on the matrix, flip their screen around and all sorts of other shenanigans

its pretty difficult to get the software onto anothers PC without them knowing about it in this day in age thankfully

to be honest with you, the hacking world could be a lot nastier than it is.. but fortunately most people who are capable are too busy or too scared of retribution to bother
imagine if the majority of sites on the internet were like this :

i cant read that link mate, my gay work computer wont let me…
