Ah OK sorry. I actually thought I was a bad thing for ther forum.
TBH if there were not sensible discussions about the pros and cons of drugs [most of them started by Requiem] I would not stop here very long myself, and remain on .com; all this ”cybersex” stuff is really not what the original cyberpunks envisaged.
not because we are “old” now and disapprove of it, but it was never intended to take the place of people meeting each other in real life – perhaps forming long term friendships or relationships. nor was it intended to take place via networks heavily monitored by corporate brands and advertisers watching their every move.
as it is, real life in the modern world actually been severely negatively disrupted by online culture, I think it is worse for young people than the older ones who can remember how it was before “social” networking – but folk like me rarely get time to go out and socialise other than online because we are trying to keep vital stuff working against loads of wannabe “hackers” trying to disrupt things.
Even some of the links which are on here can turn out to be how innocent folk get their computers or other devices hijacked and used to start problems 500 or even 10 000 km away; eventually the Internet slowly fragments along national borders and/or governments eventually step in and lock everything down.
That was already the case in the early 1990s, I got in some trouble then for breaking through those barriers at University in London. it wasn’t that the Internet as we know it couldn’t have been available at least across Europe if not the World, (I found online an ASCII copy of an old hackers book I had from 1980s which had a big section about how computers in Europes science Universities were already linked up) – but those in the UK and USA who had the knowledge and controlled the resources in some countries had locked it down because they feared exaggerated threats from foreign lands (due to stuff from some hackers which was usually minor but in some cases did disrupt innocent people or cause unintended security risks) and/or they wanted to make money in preference to sharing info.
Thankfully folk in the Germanic and Scandinavian countries had (and still have) more sense – for those who are outside the UK and do not know this, the bit of England where Requiem lives is culturally much more like those countries than London or SE England.
cyber sex seems to be the only reason people come here tbh.
And am very pleased mrsrobinson 🙂

before the site split (TBH since 11 years ago) it was looking for an instant reply to find unlicensed raves and later to try and blatantly buy or sell drugs; in spite of people who were about online in 1990s/2000s making it clear that cops could use the net as well.
I can understand why people might be attracted to it, it does still make me also wonder if every high school, uni and college worldwide, even in liberal European countries has suddenly gone back to gender-segregated religious education!
Although tech has improved, cybersex in 21st century society (it is a late 20th century idea from more optimistic and innocent times) now seems more awkward and sketchy than talking to real people your own age group in your own country! its forerunner, “computer dating” was around when I was a small boy; and people who worked with computers were viewed as “odd” (and still are, often with good reason 🙂 but they never bothered with computer dating). But back then until mid 2000s there were far more girls and young women in science and engineering from high school age ( it wasn’t forbidden to talk to the ones who studied arts subjects either!) (PC note – those who are other genders/sexualties can of course substitute the last bits with whatever gender you are attracted to. Nowadays that is less of a problem in any country tolerant enough to let its citizens go online to a site like this).
The worst you can get from real life encounters is only rejection (or if there are differing levels of commitment/fidelity a lot of Angst, along with an unpleasant but treatable disease, if you are not careful about protection). That is surely preferable to the risk of being blackmailed/bullied by people across the other side of the world/ ending up with your computer being used by foreign terrorists for cyberwar or even getting nicked for underage sex tourism whilst still in your own country.
Drugs are also still illegal even in “tolerant” European countries, you have always been able to write about them as usually the quantities involved aren’t worth an international investigation, but blatantly trying to buy/sell significant quantities online invites trouble for everyone involved.
TBH i don’t get the cyber trend but it does seem to be all over the forum at the this time, seems like not much reward, you’re still wanking off.
also TBH it doesn’t seem like many people have much success looking for it on this forum and i get alot of schadenfreude out of this 😉
