Voting wise I would have a “get here by 8 to get a guaranteed vote” so that people know there’s a cut off point. Perhaps (assuming it was a problem) ring fence council money for elections so they cant not put enough in and hope there wont be a big turnout. Have far more than could ever be needed voting forms as some places ran out.

Educate the police. As in some areas they were kicking people out even though they were indoors and had a ballet paper. As far as I understand it that is not correct, they should have been locked in and allowed to vote (some places did this). Doors must be locked and no more papers given out at 10, not that no one is allowed to vote. Not that you can totaly blame the police their understanding of the law is often basic at best in certain areas (think how long it takes to be a lawer as oposed to a copper I guses). Or I might be totally mistaken as its only things picked up from radio 4 and other media.

I think I would also have proportional representation as I cant see many drawbacks but then my knowledge of politics isnt very advanced so there probably are drawbacks I just dont fully understand them.

I see what you mean about people voting early, but what if you have kids and there’s an unforeseen circumstance that means you cant get there 2 hours early only 1. Doesn’t seem right that currently we just say tough tits and take away their legal right to vote. I bet your right though and a lot of people were just being useless and should have put in more planning, but then I fear a lot just dont have much free time to give.

who the hell would be a politician ay? damned if you do, damned if you dont.

Yeah fuck being a politician, I mean you can’t even claim for outlandish things anymore so sod all that!

I agree with ya on some of those points. I think next time there needs to be a widespread advertising campaign informing people how the day will go down. Also If people might think they’ll be busy that day then they should vote by post. Things definitely need to be improved!

I have a question though, Now that we have a hung parliament do we have to vote again at some point. Or if the Tories cut a deal with the Dems will they be in power for 4 years?

This is unfamiliar territory so I have no idea what’s going on.

I think we are expecting another election to be called 6 months to a year but I am not exactly sure how it works tbh. Not sure the media do either lol Think its all a bit difficult because we dont have a written constitution as I understand it so its a bit based on past events rather then a nice neat guide. But I dont really know

The BBC have so little to report there reviewing the building nick and david are in at the moment, apparently it has lovely wood panelling and lots of painting. Hot off the press.

there was a big advertising campaign encouraging people who hadnt registered to do so – in order to vote on the bbc channels, despite this I still know people who ‘couldnt be bothered to fill in the form and post it..’

I also think people have responsibility to also find out ‘how stuff works’ and with the internet – local librarys they can do so really easily – just type in ‘how do I vote’ and loads of info comes up!
we are not monkeys that need spoon feeding – despite this being what the governmant would prefer!

your right in that we dont have a ‘codified’ constitution… thats where its all written up in one document like the american constitution.

ours is uncodified. this doesnt mean nothing is written down, it just means its not all in one place… benefits of which include greater flexibility, ie, room for interpretation / deeper amendment, and it is generally just able to be more up to date. drawbacks of which include when you encounter a grey area such as this everyone dribbles and does fuck all.

however, this sort of stuff is, (i believe, quote and correct me if im wrong), covered under whats called ‘convention’. its sort of a halfway house between what usually happens, ie, tradition, and a statutory law.

The Communist Manifesto (Penguin Classics): Amazon.co.uk: Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels: Books

    :weee:

It’s looking likely that the Tories will form a coalition government with the Lib Dems.

I hope the Libs get em to do that no tax on the first £10,000 policy, bit selfish I know but fuck it, I want the extra money. raaa

We’ll just have to wait and see I suppose,

I think its a case of whilst it won’t be the end of the world, it will be a fucking mediocre boring government and country, like the 1980s /1990s but without any of the good bits (such as the rise in dance music) as the people in power aren’t much older than me, remember all the negative bits of the drug culture and are smart enough to stop a lot of it other than for desperate addicts (who will find themselves in SE Asian style rehab, which has a emphasis on punishment as well as cure)

for all I know I am totally wrong about the conservatives and just listen to too much leftie properganda. Would love to know where I stand in 20 years time, bet it will be very different.
