it might seem surprising but the bagpipes are popular throughout Asia; I probably inherited my interest in them from my Dad who left me an entire set of vinyl records of Highland pipe reels, and when Lee Kuan Yew (PM of Singapore for many decades) passed on his soul was piped into the afterlife by a traditional lone piper (even though he is supposedly Buddhist).
They are sometimes also used for calls to prayer by Muslims along with the dude singing “allah-u-akhbar” especially in Pakistan (where many components for bagpipes used worldwide are now made).
To be fair the video did have some warning as to the potential content, and I didn’t realise myself until a meisje/wicht in Groningen explained to me that the pirate radio stations there played this sort of random stuff (plus oompah music and country and western sung in German / Dutch / Gronings) rather than playing psytrance and EDM like in the U.
The same happens on the border areas of DE; (I’m surprised it isn’t also done in CH but Ofcom there are stricter than rest of Europe) and most of the folk running these stations are our parents age (which may explain the music choice).
I am stiill unsure why this is common across all the pirate stations in NL – (currently there are 10 on air all playing this sort of music) maybe its simply because younger folk who like EDM are watched more closely and can’t get away with it?
