want something like this…
Business On Wheels
So i can turn it into a portable soundsystem, turn the front box into a speaker, then pull a trailer with another one and another canopy on the back. Any ideas where i can get one please let me know. the ones ive found on the net are 2 grand!
unfortunately “work bikes” as these are called are always usually expensive as they have non standard frame geometry and componentry to normal bicycles and thus can’t be mass produced – they also hold their value better than normal bikes. you could convert a “old grandads” bike with a front basket and a trailer for this purpose, but unless Sheffield is flat (I don’t know it well enough and my electronic maps don’t go that far North) you might want to use a model with a derailleur gear such as a 700c wheeled hybrid…
whats a derailleur gear 700c hybid? you got any links to what they look like?
Me and a mate were thinking of buying one, which was for sale for £150(!) but someones got there before us..
Sheffield is definatly not flat as well, built on 7 hills…
Want to try and build something like the rinkydink soundsystem. Get 2 leisure batterys on there, alternator and a 3k inverter… should be enough to run it.. also get a big stand so that when stationary you can lift the back wheel off the ground and sit on and pedal… also a couple of solar panels.
Dont suppose you know where i could find the design plans for one of those ice-cream bikes? cant imagine it would be that hard to make, just need 2 mountain bikes and someone who can weld! :bounce_flash:
although I’ve seen work bikes sold cheaply they may well be many years old and knackered…. and if > 20-30 years old could contain imperial size or obsolete hard to find British components rather than MTB or hybrid components
a cross between a mountain bike and a traditional British gents bike – with 700c wheels (about 27″, bigger and thinner than a MTB) or a derailleur gear instead of the traditional Sturmey-Archer hub (you can get these but they are way expensive now!)
look at the attachment below (can’t embed it in the post as it goes tits up for me)
you will need something very robust for that sort of weight!!

I’ve found the plans for the trailers… but not the frame conversions – bear in mind someone “who can weld” stuff for motor cars or other metal work might not be a expert in the welding of bicycle frames where the stakes are higher (it is literally your arse on the line!). you need to find one of those “wallace and gromit” type northern dudes what makes bikes for enjoyment…
starting to think it may be better to just build the entire thing from scratch as im not sure a standard bike frame would be able to carry the load. speaking to a mate who may know someone who could help us build it. be well good for festivals, may even start selling ice-creams off it! watch out for the ICE-CREAM SOUNDSYSTEM! :laugh_at:

decided that instead of having an invertor gonna just use a car stereo system and run it straight from the batterys. After chatting to my mate yesterday it seems its gonna be pretty much impossible to generate enough power for the whole system and the lights so gonna just try and make it as eco as possible. reckon we could fit a small turbine and some solar panels to power the lights, but from the sounds of it the system will just have to be off batterys…

That looks good! How long could you run a system on the kind of batterys you could fit on?
not long, depends how many batterys we have. Off two it’d probably go for 3 or 4 hrs. That’d be enough tho, only want to do it for a laugh, dont wanna be doing it for the whole festival.
check this out! If you dont want to pedal! Got it in a random email last week. Pretty fucking cool!!!
