  • in galway alot of people became very ill drinking tap water before it got banned, met a woman who worked for the water board she said if you seen what their putting in to make it safe you wouldnt drink it, luckely i got mine from a well

I found a 2 Ltr bottle of theams vally water once (tap water). I still can’t work out what the point of it was O.o

It had this on the bottle and everything ….

I’ve seen these before in Reading and other Thames Water areas. They are stockpiled in various places and handed out when there are emergencies what disrupt water supplies. Bear in mind that some areas are uphill from the source of potable water (reservoir/tower etc) and so electric pumps are used to get the water to them. Also everything downstream of Teddington is brackish or seawater as the Thames becomes tidal at this point, so potable water comes from remote areas such as by Slough and somewhere else in the East which I have forgotten (it might be drawn from the Lea).

So in many area If there is no leccy, there is no water either..

Ahh that makes sence. I allways used to have a big van full of water come down the road and let you fill up containers from taps coming out the back/side when the water was cut off for long periods of time so this didn’t cross my mind.

I think since the water companies were privatised, they worked out it is cheaper (though clearly less eco-friendly) to provide this bottled water (which can of course be transported in any van which is available) than to maintain the specialist transport vehicles which contain tanks….. I’ve certainly never seen one in Reading or other bits of SE England and it was not uncommon to lose the water supply in the 1990s where I lived (in the end Thames Water and Southern Electric traced it to some faulty equipment/design, something was causing the pump motors/switchgear to get deluged with water and thus short circuit!)

Yeah I’ve not seen one of the tanker lorries with water in for years … but then again I havn’t had a prelonged water cut for years either as they replaced alot of the pipes iirc (hence why we used ot have alot of water cuts for a period).

Most of the water in NE London comes from the Walthamstow reservoirs, fed by the Lea. I was living in Stratford about a year ago and the whole of East London’s water supply got contaminated with some industrial chemical (it was leaking into the Lea from a water treatment works). The tap water had an acrid, chemical smell for weeks and there was loads in the news about it.

This professor type dude gives some more details on exactly what the chemicals were… thankfully it was nasty but not dangerous – I think I would believe him a bit more than the media or Thames Water, given what he specialises in 😉

Yes people drink bottles water because they think that their water storage tanks and pips aren’t cleaned well . That’s why today everyone buy bottles water . And i think we r doing fine for living a healthy life .

Speak for yourself, I think it’s an absolute con! I can think of better ways to spend money than buying something that’s delivered almost free to my house anyway.

DEpends where you are from really … The water here isn’t so nice (london) .. I’ve heard it’s alot better up north.

Some times I’ve poored a glass of water and it’s come out allmost white with a crap load of sediment in it … have had to run the tap for like 10 minits b4 to clean out the pipes. It’s rarely like this but does happen from time to time.

General warning have been issued today in Copenhagen; do not drink tap water without boiling it first. Due to high level of e-coli bacteria drinking un boiled water is no go….this is first time I have experienced that. Due to heavy rain this summer it is suspected that the water supply have been polluted by intrusion of septic water…. Right now I am happy I live in a non-contaminated area….

I don’t like to drink tab water because may be there are lot of germs in tab water. I drink boiled water only because it is best for health and free for any virus and germs.
