  • PS if you want to go to a free party then go to a free party

This festival cost tens of thousands of pounds to put on and only just broke even, everyone else paid to get in (it was only £65 for the early bird tickets ffs) and plenty of festivals get cancelled due to poor ticket sales. I dont see why everyone who wants to pay to go to a quality event should have their fun ruined by people like you. The only people I saw without wristbands were chav kids going around hassling people for drugs and were probably the same people going round robbing tents so I’m not surprised the security were being rough.

You’ve had 6 festivals this year ruined by security? Thats funny because me and all my mates go to plenty of festivals every year and never EVER have any trouble from security. Massive coincidence? Or maybe you are getting what you deserve because of the way you behave. I hope they put the boot in good.

this older chap I drink with told me about a festival what proper kicked off between various punters and factions of security / stewards in Essex – in 1971 – and the same arguments went on, I wasn’t even born then – but its still difficult to get events licensed today in that area…

its worth remembering that zero tolerance policies against raves and deployment of extra security present at legal festivals (even if its often a revenue protection exercise) only occur because people have took the piss at previous events.

I’ve done about 10 years personal research into this including 3 years more intensive research in recent times trying to fathom out why there is such a “backlash” against dance music events from otherwise rational, normal local people in the areas where they happen – checking reliable sources from the NHS and Police as well as punters and organisers and there do seem to be good reasons for it…

so yeah, of course, its all about the money.
we had people offering to buy our tickets for us when we were being kicked out but they still said no

not being rude but you obviously have some-sort of income, i cant afford to spend 65£ quid on something that isn’t going to make me any money back

and i went to a festival because i wanted to enjoys the lush food and have a chilled out weekend instead of partying my arse off

and 2 big stocky women dragin one skinny little girl off wispering were your friends come with us or we’ll beat you up while trying to drag her behind the security office were noone could see REASONABLE.

screw the licensing, its our right as animals to party, and ent no fence gona stop me

It’s not your right to crash a private party that took huge amounts of money and effort to organise, this festival is not about profit it’s about giving people an awesome party for the ticket price and like I said it only just broke even. If you want to go to festivals then get a job or save up your benefits, I know some cripplingly poor and unemployed people who still managed to scrape up the measly 65 quid to attend. If you dont want to do that then feel free to go dance around by yourself on public land, ent no fence gona stop you there.

In the natural/animal world its also the “right” of bigger animals to define and defend territory and eject rivals by force. Go and watch some next time you are out in the open (or even your own or other friends pets) and you will see this, and its some of the “cute” creatures what are the worst!

As a rational human I disagree with the use of excessive force for a relatively trivial matter of enforcing a civil debt (if this was tried in normal business the people involved would be nicked!)

at the same time people who have bothered to go through all the hoops of licensing do have the right to recover their costs.

OTOH I’m not singling Waveform out by any means (as I said earlier these problems have been going on decades) but the bigger irony is incidents occur associated with festivals and the music scene which if carried out by normal corporate companies / old bill cause outcries over “oppression/rights abuses” from all the sort of people who attend festivals!

^exactly this. people who think it is there right to go anywhere and attend anything just cause they can is fucking bollocks. dont know the guy, but you sound like the kind of person that would go to a free party and refuse to donate as you think that it your right to be there regardless of all the effort, time and money that has been put in to supply the party. if your just freeloading off other peoples effort then you need to sort your values out. people arent born with a natural right to everything. im sorry you got a kicking, and that is out of order if it wasnt deserved, but at the end of the day you knew the risks before you broke in so you can hardly complain when you get kicked out. you think you had a right to be there and the security had just as much of a right to kick you out as you hadnt paid. thats life. stop bitching and take it really.

i paid and tbf the festie was a bit of a shambles, bu met so many sound and beautifull people that it was more than worth it. ace to meet up with iacchus and to hear him play. and ive also met some sound people that can sort me out a job working at alchemy, where im off to in a few days. and not to go on if you were serious about wanting to work all it takes is a bit of forward planning to contact someone and you could have easily got a job or spoke to someone while you were there. anyway rant. over. peace.

@partymonkey sorry to imply u deserved a kicking, in hindsight I dont believe in violent enforcement of anything even if I dont think you had a right to be there

@process Heh the organisation was a bit of a shambles on the first day thats for sure, but its organised by hippies, what did u expect? 😉 Was cool to hang out with u tho and the crowd was really awesome. Fluffies ftw. NExt year I want to do more small festies like nostock, shambala, secret garden party etc.. better start saving up

a lot of the money these days goes to pay the expenses of the public sector authorities (so these expenses do not get passed back to the council tax payer) and also the other voluntary organisations what help out with running a festival.

My work colleagues partner was there not to party, but gave up his weekend to volunteer as a fire marshal – they only pay expenses for his travel costs. He’s actually waiting for a post in Suffolk County Fire and Rescue Service – he’s been accepted but they only take on new firefighters as older ones retire due to the current budget constraints, but volunteers for stuff like this so he can keep his skills up.

Its not always about dealing with massive blazes and bad accidents but also the interpersonal stuff like politely encouraging people to be aware of fire safety at a festival..

I did see a few people having BBQs and stuff despite it being against the rules.. i was camped right next to the fire truck actually i wasnt sure if it was just a big hippy live in conversion like u get with ambulances sometimes 😉

yeah the fireman chap said he wasn’t worried about those, just big bonfires or accidental rubbish fires…

it was worth the kicking and i had a really good time i guess i was just ranting because i was pist i missed the rest of the festie. and missed ed cox wich was the only reason i travled up from bournemouth, lernt alot and brought some cool shit.

waveform was good. alchemy was far far far and away a better festival. better more beautiful site, cheaper tickets, much more chilled security. well managed, relaxed leaving time. so much effort into decor and very very good sound which was LOUD and venues that carried on all night. definately a must for next year.:love:raaa
