Hi guys. I was talking to a friend a few days ago (he is in Newcastle atm), and he we both want to go out shroom picking this autumn, but we are both novices and so don’t want to pick up some nasty mushrooms. I know a few of his friends in Newcastle have been b4, and so they could help with the mushroom identification process, but I was also hoping to get my hands on a few books about it. I was wondering if u guys knew any good books which would be helpful.

P.S. If I do go shroom picking with some of my friends, it will be in either the Newcastle or Nottingham area. If some of you guys fancy tagging along, that would be cool. (obviously it isnt gonna happen for a while yet, lol).

3 books i would recomend

1. A guide To British Psilocybin Mushrooms by Richard Cooper
small book and cheap, good to carry with you out on the hunt, only colour pics are of liberty caps but those are probs the only ones ur looking for anyway

2. Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World by Paul Stamets
great book with colour pics of almost every tripy mushroom in it and how to identify them

3. Field Guide to Edible Mushrooms of Britain and Europe by Peter Jordan
general guide of whats edible and some poisonous ones you might come across, alwayse good to know.

and find pictures on the net, look at as many as u can. the more pics u study the more likely u are to identify em correctly.

ill come if im up your way at the time, but i wouldnt worry about books once you go on 1 pick with people who know what ur looking for you wont make any mistakes once you have een afew liberty caps it becomes very difficult to pick copy cats, i find all the breeds that could be mistaken for libertys look to perfect i havnt picked a liberty cap that was perfect , there always dodgy in some way shape or form, curly stalks, to domed, big nipple, wrinkly once you know what ur looking for there a peice of piss to spot so just go with your friends who know what there doing and you’ll egt the hang of it in no time

I’ve been after the same kind of information aswell ^_^
Think i’ll do what DeathByTree suggested and look at as many picture and burn them into the memory.
It shall be happy hunting indeed!

im going to a spot jsut north of manchester this year feel free to tag along once you’ve seen em in person you dont make a mistake again

just to add to this old post, grinding up anything, will make it work much quicker, as it can chemicaly decompose much faster and the nutrients(ie thigs that fuck u up) can enter the bloodstream much faster, due to partical size
