Innit just. fucking waste of perfectly good black pudding. :you_crazy
You should try the pudding mate, nothing wrong with good ol fashioned pig’s blood! :weee:
I’m sure this has probably been discussed in past threads, but i reckon its important for people who love shrooms to get as much information on how to best keep your magical finds.
so heres a few questions that intrest me and will hopefully help others out too.
1) Is it possible to dry your fresh picked mushrooms in a fridge/freezer (instead of the usual way of using heat to dry them) ?
2) How long can you leave your fresh shrooms in a box or whatever before they rot ?
3) Once you have succesfully dried your shrooms until they are brittle, how long can u leave them before they start loosing potency ?
4) In the long run what is the best method of preserving your dried shrooms ? (i heard keeping them in a honey jar is good)
I hope anyone who has some experience with mushrooms can share there knowledge on this topic, and those of you who, like me, dont know much about keeping mushrooms can feel free to ask any questions.
gratefull for all comments:)
Firstly you don’t need heat or any thing really to dry mushrooms.
Lay them out on something like a tray all spaced apart and just leave them for 2/3 days.
Just check them every day because you’ll get 1 or 2 that dont dry and go all mushy, just chuck them.
I stick mine under my bed and there dry in about 3 days.
thats with no heating on and the window open.
As for how long they’ll last, dunno, longest i’ve kept them is a few months and they’ve been just as potent then as when picked( or first dried at least)
I would imagine they would last a long time.
Hope that helps.
last time i jus left them to dry by themselves they rotted quite quickly but that might have jus happend cos i left them in a lunch box with the lid on.
didn’t your bedroom stink like fuck if you left them lying uncovered?
no they don’t smell really maybe a bit but with the windows open not enough to notice.
If you leave them all in a big clump they will rot make sure you seperate them all. And if they don’t get any air i.e in a lunch box they’ll rot.
And dont put them on news paper or they’ll stick to it:wink:
spread em out on newspaper i find gets them good and dry. you can freeze them from fresh as well, but when you thaw them out you need to use them up right away or they will rot fast.
in a jar of runny honey preserves them from fresh and they are delicious like that
i went for a quick pick today. the season has started in devon already… fairly early this year due to crap weather
Yea there is plenty out in yorkshire aswell, Suppose thats one good thing about all this rain.
theres feckking loads where i go pickin now, a big flat playing field, theres more and more each time i go there, big fucking families of them everywhere you look, ive got well over a thousand of them jus sitting in my room lol, main reason why i was needing to know how to dry them and preserve them properly, ive seperated them all now and put them onto plates making sure none are touching each other, took me fucking ages. i reckon if i go pickin there every 4 days or so for the next couple of months i’ll ave enough to see me through winter no problaymo:)
Ugh, you lucky bastards. I feel like I’ve walked over every cow feild in miles and I haven’t found a pin 😥

cow fields aren’t ideal as the cattle churn up the soil and that destroys the mycelium
you want a bit of moorland or even a playing field
This is what Americans do with pig’s blood…
I’m scared now lol! So you think you’ll try the black pudding mate? :weee:
