1) Is it possible to dry your fresh picked mushrooms in a fridge/freezer (instead of the usual way of using heat to dry them) ?
2) How long can you leave your fresh shrooms in a box or whatever before they rot ?
3) Once you have succesfully dried your shrooms until they are brittle, how long can u leave them before they start loosing potency ?
4) In the long run what is the best method of preserving your dried shrooms ? (i heard keeping them in a honey jar is good)
I hope anyone who has some experience with mushrooms can share there knowledge on this topic, and those of you who, like me, dont know much about keeping mushrooms can feel free to ask any questions.
gratefull for all comments:)
1. You can freeze them but I would not recommend that, and never ever use heat to dry them.
2. You should start the drying process as soon as you get them home. Get them fresh picked shrooms out of the bag or box they’re in ASAP.
3. I’ve found that when fully dried out and sealed packed in air tight / light proof containers they’re still good up to a year later, which is all you should need since a new harvest will be on the cards.
4. I lay them out individually on a ceramic surface in a warm room and leave them over night. To check if they’re fully dry just squeeze the cap of some samples, they should have lost their elasticity. Once properly dried place them in airtight and opaque containers (I use camera film plastic cylinders). At this stage I usually weigh them prior to storage so that I know that x grams = x number of shrooms so it easy to assess doses.
Prep: After years of experimenting I have found this prep to be the best. Get your dried shrooms and chop them up into fine pieces or grind them to dust using a coffee grinder. weigh out the desired dose and then mix with orange juice and neck it. The combination of powdering and mixing with a mild acid makes for a very quick ‘come-up’ especially on an empty stomach. This method works a lot better than making a brew or necking them whole.
HAPPY SHROOMIN 😉
So me n a few mates hav bin hicking through fields, tredding through forrests, and marching round playing fields for month or so, i have found everytype of mushroom under the bloody sun but dont know for sure if i have come accross liberty caps yet!
here are a few pictures of very similar looking mushrooms we have found (mainly in fields surrounding the edge of a forrest)
now to me these all look pretty different, ive found loads that look like the picture in the Middle, do you guys think all these mushrooms are definitly libertys ??? what about that middle picture have any of you found libertys that look like them ?
ALL COMMENTS APPRICIATED:crazy_dru
Top and bottom pics are Liberty Caps, middle are NOT.
In Pic 1 you can see that some of the root has come out of the ground, THIS IS REALLY REALLY BAD FOR THE PLANT !!!
WHEN PICKING, USE YOU FINGER TIPS OR FINGER NAILS TO SNAP OFF THE STEM ABOVE GROUND AND THUS LEAVE THE DELICATE ROOT SYSTEM UNAFFECTED. THIS WILL PREVENT UNNECESSARY DAMAGE TO THE PLANT AND HELP IN TERMS OF QUALITY HARVESTS THE NEXT YEAR AND THEREAFTER.
IF THE ROOT SYSTEM IS PERSISTANTLY DAMAGED BY PULLING THE SHROOMS OUT OF THE GROUND THE PLANT WILL DIE.

hmmmm…when i say a few i mean 20 max. and the field isnt very big. but anyway, thanks for the optimism! Will keep my eyes open!
I’m gonna go on a mushroom hunt with my mate on sat. not gonna do any though cos i’m a law abiding citizen. just gonna look at em and imagine what it would be like to take em. 😉
WHAT THE HELL IS THAT BLACK STUFF?!?!?!
LMFAO….:laugh_at::laugh_at:
and it’s black pudding:wink:
acid always helps the after effects i find 🙂
Hey JulesDogg – I may be wrong but I am not sure about necking them with orange juice. I remembering hearing years ago that the best thing to give someone having a bad trip is orange juices as the vitamin C helps reduce the effects of the trip.
Has anyone else heard this or am I the victim of some old (hippy) wives tale?
I always find that for larger mushies laying them all facing one way on news paper and then getting a fan to blow up into the them gills (as to increase surface area) this probably isn’t needed with libs as they are so small, but still would probably speed things up. After most of the moisture has gone from them (when they are almost snapable) I put them in air tight tupperware boxes with a glass of silica gel in the corner, and they seem to last in there indefinately. I know someone who has eatten some dried mushies that were over 7 years old with good reports although I wouldn’t leave them that long, as long as stored correctly they will at least last until next season.

Yeah I wanted to know about this too, i’ve heard allot of people say it.
sheep pastures are good they keep the grass short ,making it easy to spot them .we used to freeze them but its no so easy to get the dose right .
Does anyone have any tips for finding liberty caps? from research it seems there mostly found in fields with cattle of some kind (lots of poo). I had a quick look last year and didnt find anything. Tips would be greatly aprechated 🙂

magic shrooms in england don’t grow in poo and as it says in that thread, cattle fields are often not the best places to look
