  • They do have moments where they sound god awful but mostly it is melodic and deep.

They were pioneers all right. Not producers of the easiest albums to listen to ever tho.

Usually has some good songs on each album Take cuts 3,4,5 off of this album for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL3NqfFTec8

Oakie came onto the seen around 1990 and that is when his record label was founded.

He was around a few years before that although his releases around 1988 were initialy on white labels with limited distribution. (Perfectos official launch in Europe is listed as 1989)

The late 80s/early 90s EDM tracks crossed over into mainstream UK, Europe and USA charts quite quickly (in many cases due to European public service broadcasters experimenting with “yoof media”) and were picked up by USA major labels (ironically much of this happened via their UK subsidiaries); as the copyright of many tracks is still owned by these majors or is even disputed some early tracks are very quickly blocked or restricted by Youtubes content ID which skews what younger people might be able to hear (there are great gaps in the coverage and availability of early 90s EDM on youtube within the UK, possibly even worse within USA).

A few years ago I was surprised to find the soundtrack of a popular early drum and bass track blocked from a video of mine, especially as it was in the background of the original camera audio recorded in a room with noisy PC ventilator fans and the video was demonstrating a circuit that muted the loudspeakers if other equipment was in use, making this recording competely useless for pirates anyway; I’d used it to actually give publicity to the original producers and encourage people to maybe buy the original if it could still be found…

The DJ’s and producers themselves don’t like this situation one bit (it goes completely against the spirit of the EDM scene) but often have no control over it; although many of them have in recent times bought back their labels from the majors and use more independent distribution networks which aren’t as anal about enforcing copyright (to the detriment of their music actually gaining an audience).
