watched it a few times trying to work out “how on earth did they do those effects with the fluorescent tubes?”
At first I thought it was an projector shining on the unpowered tubes but unless everything was aligned to the last mm and the video processed with an overlay there would be loads of reflections, shadows and and light overspill – the Asian dude taking photos would give the game away away although he wouldn’t be be likely to be taking pictures from that direction as they would be way overexposed and looking directly into a projector beam or similar bright light is harsh on the eyes!
I had spotted the unusual electronic box at the bottom right of the tubes which looks like a LAN switch but has much faster multi coloured lights which I suspected had something to do with the lightshow. looking at the comments I am not the only person to wonder about this and I agree with those who think that the fluorescent tubes are either dummies containing low voltage RGB LED strips or these strips have been strategically placed around them; such strips could easily be controlled via DMX and would only require thin cable that could be hidden amongst the existing rats nest of wires.
