TBH I dont even know if it was made in the UK, MG certainly arent British owned any more so my choice had nothing to do with being patriotic lol MG ZR is the same chassis & body as the Rover 400 only with sporty kit & interior and some nice tweaks underneath that make it a firmer faster ride, a week ago I would have recommended this car, a lot of bang for your buck and reliable……… BUT that all changed a few days ago when I cooked it and now it’s going to cost me a fortune to fix.
I still think my Mazda was was the best car I ever had, cheap, basic yet a hell of a lot of fun to drive. Id still have it if it hadnt been w/o and if I had the money I would get another one.
MG’s (Morris Garages) were always a “sports” version of an associated British Leyland car. They were and are good affordable performance cars but prone to this sort of problem. Every other person I know who has owned an MG of that era seems to have had problems with the K series engine, usually at least the head gasket gone and a often few other unpleasant cascading failures as well with a large repair cost.
The Chinese bought the company as much out of a love of British motors (more the design than the reliability) as anything else – they had already bought a lot of the rights to the engine and apparently improved newer models to stop some of these problems. When I went to Malaysia in the 1990s and visited my Dad’s town of birth (Georgetown, Penang) which is a Chinese area it was like a British Leyland car museum on the streets there (they don’t rust as the weather is better…) – though there are more Japanese cars in Kuala Lumpur, and of course Protons (these being native to the country).
A car…
YAY Im on the road, been over a week without a car, the longest Ive gone without driving in 20 years but now Im back behind the wheel being a hazard to the nations roads & people again : )

I don’t plan on driving, I’d rather a motorbike, damn sight cheaper to run and repair, as well as more fun.
Corsa utility 1.8 sport, kawasaki kx 125, suzuki dr600, bmw gs1200, yamaha blaster 200 quad

Motorbikes -vs- Cars
Motorbikes are more fun – TRUE
Motorbikes are cheaper to run – TRUE
Motorbikes are more likely to kill you – TRUE
Girls are less likely to accept a lift home on the back of a bike – TRUE
Motorbikes are totally impracticable for shopping, getting to work etc – TRUE
Motorbikes are bloody horrible in British winters – TRUE
Basically you need to drive, motorbikes are brilliant if you can afford to have one as a toy for weekend/evening use in the summer, they are rubbish as an only mode of transport, trust me, been there done that ; )
