So what exactly is hash?
I’ve seen it in movies etc, and a friend of mine bought some a while ago for himself. I think he ate it…
I have seen it in movies and on t.v (trailer park boys hahaha) but what exactly is it? I think I heard it is pre-burned weed. But whats the point of that?
Is there still THC in it? Is it a better high?
There’s a variety of different types of hash and quite a few different ways in which it can be made. Hash is a form of cannabis. But unlike pure cannabis (the buds straight from the plant) hash, depending on quality, can contain all sorts of nasty shit such as; petrol, bits of plastic and generally whatever can be concealed within it to bulk it out and add weight. This makes it cheaper to produce as there’s less cannabis in it and therefore less of the psychoactive substances in marijuana such as THC and CBD. Similar to how how you may get amphetamines in an ecstasy pill, amphetamine is cheaper than mdma (esctasy) but still gets you buzzed, as does smoking bits of plastic and various unidentified chemicals in your hash. But that’s only poor quality hash.
You get real nice Moroccan hash, kind of world famous for it’s high quality. This stuff is generally made from the waste product of a harvest that can’t be sold on as bud, green, weed or whatever you want to call it, this is the leaves of the plant and sometimes stem as well. The roots of a cannabis plant contain no psychoactive chemicals so they have no use in this process. The leaves and stem (if used) are crushed into a pulp and bound together with crystals or pollen also collected from the plants during harvest, remember, by the time a plant is ready for harvest it is often heavy laden with these big crystals (trichomes) which produce most of the cannabinoids. Inevitably when harvesting the dried flowers or bud many of these trichomes fall off, as they can be fragile. This is why workers will often lay a tarpaulin or piece of materiel beneath the plants as they harvest them to minimise waste. Hash is often just a by-product of the plant’s materials once the buds/flowers have been harvested. But as there’s still some money to be made from these parts of the plant, hash is created rather than letting it go to wasted.
The most basic method for creating hash I know is called shoe hash, the title is self explanatory really. Cannabis farmers or people working on plantations will harvest the main crop i.e. the buds, then collect the leaves, scrape whatever equipment they’ve used to cut/prune the plants (as these will have bits of the plant on them), and literally stick it in their shoe along with the crystals they’ve collected that have dropped off the plant during harvest. As they walk about or continue working the material becomes compressed, thus allowing them to add more as the day progresses.
There are far more complicated ways of making hash but I tried to keep that basic without over complicating it.
Is it a better high? That’s all down to personal choice really. It’s undeniable benefits are though that it’s cheaper than skunk/green and smells less, the second is only really a benefit if you live somewhere like the UK, as I do, where laws on cannabis are is very strict. Many other areas of Europe are much more lax around cannabis.
