Does anyone what’s going on with Glade?? Really really wanted to go but apparently its not on this year.. I saw something about it being replaced with Pearl festival but I don’t really know much about this
I don’t see why it could not happen in the same venue as last year as it went well without any major incident (there was apparently more wind than know_hope had expected, but it is normal weather for EA (I did even get up early to get the area weather map from German Coastguard but it showed only force 2/3 wind)).
The realities are that festivals are viewed by local authorities as the equivalent of a flood or terrorist incident. And to be fair with British weather, driving standards and behaviour its not uncommon to get a flood, and added to that a fair few road crashes and hospitals getting 50%-100% more emergency admissions, a work colleague was on ED at the time of the first glade, and he was shocked and dismayed at some of the things the NHS had to cope with for what should have been a “fun” event, including child neglect, avoidable OD’s and incidents of violence. (BTW this dude was one of the first people any patient at ED would deal with so he is not easily shocked).
The rest of society which doesn’t want the festival isn’t prepared to subsidise it through their tax in a time of economic depression, so the Emergency services and Council recover the costs which are put on to people ticket prices.
Even latitude which is basically a festival for posh 6th form kids and their teachers and parents still has two rape cases unsolved, and youths from my urban estate in Ipswich left early last year because the amount of arrests and violent incidents dismayed them (this area of town supposedly has a bit of a bad rep!) and with each outdoor where this bullshit happens the backlash becomes bigger.
I heard that last year they were having difficulting selling tickets anyway, so perhaps they have (wisely) decided to rest a year and do it next year.

Cheers for the info GL – How are you so knowledgeable on everything!?
Ah fuck! I assumed it was gonna be announced at some point. 🙁
In that case, might give Secret Garden Party a whirl, see what that’s like.
I started researching in depth the issues regarding EDM event licensing after friends of mine unfortunately got sent to prison for holding illegal events (I wanted to work out why things had got so bad ) – with regard to Glade some years ago I lived and partied in the same area of SE England and helped put on some free parties with folk who later went on to be part of the crews for the first few events.
Although the cops and councils are blamed for being killjoys there really are safety concerns for large crowd events. Even in Holland and Germany there have been some very unpleasant things happen at outdoor events (the loveparade crush, and I have seen youtubes of mass fighting at Dutch open air events, there also seems to be a silly practice of bringing dangerous fireworks to some of them).
the problem with crowds is a small band of determined sociopaths can do a lot of damage and spoil the atmosphere for everyone or even hurt many more people.
there are festivals on TENS with about 500 people which do not usually have these problems, but they are often deliberately not widely advertised so the idiots do not find out about them.
