in response to posts about whether the weed drought in some areas of the UK is caused by the current “state of heightened alert” – well its a case of yes and no..
Most weed sold in the UK now is local but increasingly grown by immigrants from SE Asia (normally Viet Nam) rather than brought across national borders…
however current World events mean that anyone who is Asian is subject to more scrutiny by their neighbours and more suspicion; people who would previously have turned a blind eye (or a blocked nose?) to the cannabis factory on the block are now calling the cops or other authorities.
add to this perceived (and exaggerated) links between drugs and terrorism..
and any sightings of people (particularly Asian people) carrying “strange items of equipment” or just gathering at odd hours is being notified to the Police – increasingly by people who “wouldn’t normally grass”…
It doesn’t matter that Vietnamese are rarely Muslim – what has happened is the world problems have given those who always hated and mistrusted multiculturalism and immigration more chance to flex their muscles by using the power of the authorities..
Also the cops at the frontline can themselves get away with more surveillance without being held back by “civil liberties” or “political correctness”, and if cops are available to go around areas looking for “terrorists” they can look for a lot more as well (and this doesn’t just affect Asian people either!)
The current state of paranoia makes “normal people” accept the surveillance society and the nanny state a bit more; even if they would have once tolerated cannabis growing or even used it themselves some are feeling “well we need to clamp down for the good of the country” and are making that call to the cops/feds etc..
So more people are getting caught…. the hidden cost of wider world and political events..
