given that this young lady is American and appears to be living in a fairly conservative area she cannot really be blamed for any naiveity.
we take for granted in Britain our ability to talk freely about drugs, even amongst those who do not take them or agree with their use.
despite the first amendment there is a lot of real hate and stigma against “druggies” in the USA. it may be the case she dare not speak to her college mates or even her close family for fear of being turned in to the authorities.
A few years ago a young lady on here from USA who was a talented DJ , good looking (I think was also a model) got busted for a empty weed bag in college (I think she was snitched on by some other jealous girl)
college authorities and the local cops both procesed here
They gave her a infraction (caution + fine), so at least it wasn’t jail but they also revoked her drivers license, expelled her and revoked her college grant for any other college (standard procedures)
she lost out on loads of DJ’ing and modelling work and her education
it gets worse, when that New Orleans hurrican trashed loads of peoples houses many of them didn’t get any benefits or crisis loan because they had been busted for drugs years ago and state rules mean you can’t get welfare if you have been busted for drugs
so can you blame young Americans for living in fear about discussing their lifestyles, and therefore not haveing the same level of “street knowledge”
