The Global Marijuana March (GMM) is an annual rally held at different locations across the planet. It refers to cannabis-related events that occur on the first Saturday in May, or that weekend, or thereabouts. Marches, meetings, rallies, raves, concerts, festivals, info-tables, etc…
The Global Marijuana March also goes by the name of the Million Marijuana March (MMM). It began in 1999. Over 485 different cities worldwide have participated since 1999. There are local names for the event too. Such as: World Cannabis Day, Cannabis Liberation Day, Global Space Odyssey, Ganja Day, J Day, etc…
The Global Marijuana March is a celebration embracing cannabis culture as a personal lifestyle choice. Participants unite to discuss, promote, entertain and educate both consumers and non-consumers alike.
One of the main organizers since 1999 is Dana Beal and his Cures-Not-Wars.org website. Another of the main organizers is CannabisCulture.com and its publication, Cannabis Culture Magazine. Both Dana Beal and CannabisCulture.com people have mailed thousands of GMM-MMM posters worldwide over the years.
hmm although both Birmingham and London in the UK are mentioned as having co-ordinators I’d heard nothing about this. Thanks for the link though as I did find a useful bit of info which shows how in the UK we could decriminalise drugs (not just cannabis); and I expect similar laws apply to Canada as it has the same political system as the UK….
no i won’t
as much as i despise the prohibition of drugs i’d rather put my effort into ending inequality, oppression and injustice. i’d say free palestine is a bit more of an urgent issue, just for example
obviously i agree with the sentiments behind legalisation, well decriminalisation, but my priorities lay elsewhere
Not exactly in walking distance :laugh_at:
I can’t afford to get a train ticket to the next city across, let alone travel to a different country 😥
my mate went to one of these marches in birmingham a few years ago, but turns out all it was was a few cainers walking around looking confused as no-one had organised anything.
TBH I feel in the present present campaigning for cannabis decriminalisation is a losing battle; stoners were given a chance (even if it may have been by accident) when it went class C during better economic times but they fucked it up for themselves by being lazy and allowing foreign dealers to corner the commercial market rather than small scale growing amongst friends….
also there is a current issue in Britain with defence lawyers encouraging criminal scum including rapists and violent robbers to claim a defence of “intoxication” due to skunk to try and reduce their sentences; of course this puts law-abiding peoples backs up and makes their views for prohibition much more entrenched…
