‘Cheese’ is a mixture of heroin and over the counter cold medication.
It is currently in the news in USA as under 18s are dying through abusing it. The Dallas medical examiner determined in april that 17 young people had died of ‘cheese’ use since 2005 [by establishing they had the ingredients of the cold medication and heroin in their bodies at the time of death.]
Its is normally snorted and can have up to 8% heroin content in the powder which is enough to get users addicted to the heroin.
The effects are to make the user drowsy, euphoric and disorientated. Once the drug has been used a few times heroin addiction can begin to kick in. After this point the person using the drug may need to go onto a opiate detox program to get off the heroin they have become addicted to.
Not only is the heroin in the ‘cheese’ dangerous but the diphenhydramine [from the cold medication] is potentially fatal as well as being a powerful hallucinogen in high doses.
It is thought that most of the fatalities occurred while the ‘cheese’ users were asleep after partying with the drug cocktail.
