I would like to hear opinions on this post and please if you disagree with my reasoning or premise I want to hear why, I have an open mind and will take on board anything that’s said.
I have had the same argument on several occasions with people, the most recent was a youth worker who’s constant answer to why so many kids are ” fucked up ” excuse language
is purely and simply DRUGS. I have seen so many versions of drug rehab that focuses on the drugs being the main issue and I personally believe we need to stop treating drugs as the problem
and treat them as a symptom of the main issue, these kids have low self esteem, a feeling of worthlessness, anger and aggression issues and generally feel the world is against them, almost all of them
have no coping skills or mechanisms and have no knowledge of the basic life skills (preparing healthy meals, general personal hygiene and budgeting). So now we have a group within our society that have little
or no social skills who even amongst themselves have difficulty expressing their feelings, they then turn to drugs and alcohol to numb these feelings and help them socialise but as Some of you are fully aware
substances don’t just numb they can amplify and focus, feelings and the senses. Those of us who have used (myself being one) for pleasure and enjoyment, enhance our feelings of well being and relaxation or chase the
thrill from sensory overload. This group though more often than not, feel a sense of worthlessness and hopelessness that none of them have the ability to put into perspective, added to those often is an anger and rage that they have little
control over, its hard enough for a grown adult with the coping mechanisms in place to navigate through so wondering why a young person with all this and multiplied with substances can ” Freak Out “.
And at its core is simply the lack of Parenting, They are not your friends, They do not automatically upload what they need to know and it is not the responsibility of teachers and schools, the complete inability of some parents to
pass on life skills astounds me. As a parent I believe we have 3 requirements and that’s it, 1: teach them the rules that allow them to integrate within society 2: give them the skills to cope with life when we are no longer around 3: LOVE
them unconditionally.
I hope I have not offended or upset anyone with what I’ve said I just needed to get it out, anyone willing to respond I say “thankyou it is appreciated”
I agree with all of that. Nothing I’ve seen or been through gave the tiniest shit about me or why I used drugs. I’ve been demonized, treat like shit, deprived of liberty because of how I chose to deal with my life. It was constantly banged into every drug user they are the problem, and that their solution to coping, was deemed the problem.
Sad state we live in.
Tripper you truly are a man who shines and always believe that. I have a sense that your brightest moment though is yet to come and it will light up the whole world
Well, we shall see :)/.
I totally agree with this but in my country compared with 20 years ago there has actually been a significant decline in the use of controlled drugs, NPS and even alcohol amongst the bulk of young people’ particularly those who are better educated; we’ve had 10 years of zero tolerance policies aimed at the music / entertaintment industries and the associated drugs culture; and cops have been provided with upgraded and effective surveillance equipment. Overt drugs users are now increasingly a minority in my region; the other youth judge them as chavs and will even tip off the Police if they see folk taking hard drugs in the street.
Although I did in my teens have to put up with the sterotypical “Asian parenting” to some extent I otherwise was always treated well – and was more into music than drugs until the 1990s. And I realise now Dad took (legal) drugs simply to cope with the responsibilities of raising two kids to young adulthood (he only made it to 57 unfortuately) and working two jobs (in his final week of life he made peace with me as he realised it was only the flawed legal system that meant I got arrested whereas he could pick up his prefferred substances via the NHS…)
In 2006 I moved from one region of England to another and noticed how the remaining ravers have changed; they were seeking oblivion and escape rather than enlightenment and weren’t even trying to create a wider alternative society (such as squats/shared party spaces, hackerspaces etc).
Howver I notice many the same problems amongst middle class kids (even in other European nations) who do not have bad family backgrounds and do not take drugs at all and only drink moderately – I do wonder if all those poxy smartphone apps, creepy online marketing, the tech gender divide and facebook etc are contributing to this lack in self esteem and dumbing down.
Recently I tried to get referred back to the mental health team. Saw a nurse and 1 mention of drugs and that was it, basically told to fuck off and had a sneering nurse tell me that over the phone and when I complained (the nurse had already ran off to tell his boss) his boss was a total insensitive cunt. He sharp changed his tone when I asked for his bosses name, which he tried his damnedest to keep from me and egen when I got her name, he refused to give me her contact details, in the end he said he had her contact details but wasn’t giving me them. After thanking him for wasting my time and putting the phone down I googled his boss and emailed her. She was pretty pissed off and all of a sudden those fucking morons from earlier, concede someone needs to see me and now I have a worker coming in just over 2 weeks (he got hell for that when he rang) and he’s gonna get hell when he comes here.
I understand your annoyance but if you want help make it happen you are the driver in your life and people like that will attempt to make you a passenger, you are the only person that truly knows what is happening to you and it is their job to help you understand the medical basis for your condition, they forget the first rule of mental illness ” the patient must want to get better” but how can you come to that frame of thought if you truly don’t understand whats wrong. and that would be true even if you suffered severe mental illness. Remind them they are here to help you, help yourself to recovery or at least to guide you forward,
Oh and if ever you want to talk just ask I have no issue including giving you my phone number just remember 8 hours time differential,
Great Big Hug Dude, Steve
Thaks very much man and you’re complately right. These bastards will do aything to get rid of a patient.

The worst part of this is it is very likely that those nurses are all English and around the same age as ourselves; unfortunately the NHS is too large and complex to have enough resources to dip sample phone calls for service quality or to obtain valid evidence like call data records whilst also complying with privacy safeguards as they employ very few full time IT staff and contractors cannot be trusted. (NHS still use old proprietary systems which make call recording difficult and expensive)
I encounter many people in British healthcare who might be intelligent and qualified but clearly never really wanted to do the job in the first place and who have no real empathy for the patients – the ones who are genuinely seem to be fairly religious, of foreign ancestry or older than 40 (often all three).
it is very likely this lot are taking the opportunity to get their revenge on the generation who “partied whilst they studied and worked hard” and unfortunately they are a bit more subtle than the 1970s when the NHS mental health were as bad as 1970s/1980s cops (my uncle was one of the first NHS managers who dared to challenge this attitude).
one of the science unis here did a survey of political attitudes amongst middle class people in East England and found over half of them were openly prepared to state they felt that “European style” social democracy that Britain has tried to implement with the EU costs too much and they would rather have a more authoritarian government system like that of Malaysia, Singapore and some Middle Eastern countries whilst at the same time these nations are trying to move in the other direction.

even non controversial commercial business in England has become a complete hassle iin recent times; companies don’t even respond to queries or turn down any business that is viewed as “too complex” or doesn’t provide immediate short term profit / big contracts and when you do purchase something it is regularly delayed or wrongly delivered (I now only buy certain specialist radio equipment from Scotland or the Chinese via Amazon as their businesses seem to employ staff who want to help people)
About the nurses, you’re spot on. They may not record their phone calls but I record mine now, and since that prick, I’ll be doing it for everyone who’s not a personal friend, cunts.
I’m not in the UK but we seem to have similar problems with kids in America.
Not sure it’s so much the kids as the system that’s supposed to be helping them that’s the problem.

Yeah its definitely exogenous and not the kids fault but they do end up looking bad as if they’re defective when they aren’t.
Oh yes, fucking demonized and never engaged. Kids can’t have any clue about their problems without knowledge and some kids just aren’t gonna submit and bend over when some wanker doctor demands whatever.
