Found this on a Danish news channel :weee:

      http://dr.dk/Debat/Debatter/Etik+og+tro.htm?strItemID=forum&action=viewcontribution&intContributionID=17752

      Quote:

      What is say is:

A 61 year old women have given birth to her first child,a baby girl..

The Danish legislation don’t allow women over 45 to be artificially inserminated..

So she went to UK,because there are no law agains it there..

Lot of different oppinions about that in Danmark..

      – Some say that she have more life experience than a 19 year old girl

      – Some say it’s repulsive

      – Some say she is selfish and should be ashamed

      – Some say Congratulation

      What do YOU say ??

Is it morally right to do this..

Or should the law be changed in the UK or Denmark..

hmmm its a toughy really aint it, i think she shouldnt be denied the right to have a child … but she’s obviously going to die [not nice but true] before the child has grown up … so she’s denying the child a mother for most of its life … but also the kids prob gonna be happy and wont know any better as it will just be normal for him/her!:hopeless:

It isn’t exactly “natural” and I would class it as a science experiment using humans.

OTOH Morally I don’t see a problem with it when in England you have teenage year old girls getting pregnant, getting tired of their babies and the social services getting the grandparents to look after them anyway

Life expectancy has got better so its possible this lady could live to 80 or so in good health so the baby will have a mother for the formative years of its life (I would hope the doctors would not have let her have the AI operation if she was not in a good state of health).

But I do think 61 is a bit old and the EU should agree a maximum age for AI in humans (perhaps age 50?) and stick by it..

Or why not just give these old women the unwanted babies of younger girls instead?

dont think its quiet the same… having your own child , or some one else’s [genetic makeup en all that] but adoption is an option for most of these ladys already but they want there own…but yea your right she’ll prob stick around till the kids 20-25 ish so it aint to bad!

would she be eligible to adopt at that age? I suspect not tbh as she would be considered too old…and everyone is happy to take the babies – its the older children who are hard to place in foster homes

it is like you say though a teenage dirl has a baby and the grandparents end up looking after it , as the teenager usually hasnt a clue … so why not this 61 yo!!!

I know about adoption in Denmark that there are a rule saying that there

can’t be more than 40 years difference in the age of the adoptive parents and the child

        – I dont know the law in UK

Well she has most likely had her menopause so her time has passed, but then again is denying her the right to a child any different to denying the right to a young couple who cannot concieve naturally?

The problem is with how science and technology has progressed we are going to be presented with more of these is it “moral” questions.

Personally i do feel she is a little to old to be a mother, ok she has more life experience but there are also things that the child will miss out on. she wont be able to go on fun fairs, maybe swim (unsure). Is it likely that she will survive to the age when the child might get married?

I have enjoyed my life where i have had great grand parents (who have now passed away). raaa
