• Lord, I come to You right now to draw on Your strength and power. I ask You to be with me to strengthen me in all areas where I feel weak. I pray that You will help me to stand strong, no matter what comes against me. Save me from the things that would try to destroy me. Your power is far greater than that which I fear could crush me. Thank You that because I draw close to You constantly, You are always near me to be my strength.

You, O Lord, do not be far from me; O my strength, hasten to help me! Psalm 22:19

How Can I Resist Temptation?

God’s Response

Use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the sturdy belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News, So that you will be fully prepared. In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by satan. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere. Ephesians 6:13-18

The time to prepare for battle is before it begins. The time to prepare for temptation is before it overwhelms you. Your greatest defense against temptation is to arm yourself by praying and studying God’s Word. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you can resist temptation without knowing the special tactics God provides in the Bible.

God’s Promise

Remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

I’m not religious one iota

but I do like aspects of the ‘serenity prayer’ minus the lord bit :laugh_at:

to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

as I’m with you Raj on personal responsibility

its used in AA/NA/CA etc

I’m not religious either! I just worship the Lord Jesus Christ – there’s a big diff!!!! Most peeps don’t clue in on that….

Anyway – if you are saying that prayer, who are you praying to??? Who will grant you the serenity????? Sometimes you CAN’T just ‘do it by yourself’…..

im sorry, what? how can you say you worship jesus christ, but are not religious? That just doesnt make any sense. Also the endless posting of prayers on here is starting to get a bit tedious. Do you not have anything else to say? Im not slagging off your beliefs its just coming across as a bit like spam now tbh.

:hopeless: I’m not ‘praying’ in the ‘conventional’ way – I’m saying the words to myself, as I’ve already said I dont believe in god / god’s
but I DO believe in self / personal responsibility!!!!

some people may not feel they can do ‘it’ themselves however I believe we all the the choice to make changes in our own lives – whereas you believe some people / you needed god – who’s to say I am right or you are right?

Take it as this – I like the words / the statement / the sentement ……

And I dont have a clue how you can worship the ‘lord jesus christ’ and not be religious? please explain……

Ok, I’ll put it like this…. the statues, altar, priests etc… THATS RELIGION. They are outward symbols of man’s attempt to communicate with God. They are NOT GOD! Statues and altars and even priests are NOT NECESSARY to feel God’s presence – in fact, He is NOT present in many! There are many ‘dead’ churches, where they are just going through the motions, and God and His Holy Spirit in fact are Not present!!!

Religion is things like tradition, memorized prayers,going through the motions every Sunday kind of thing…..that is NOT what Christ died to bring about!!!!! He shed His blood on the cross so you would turn to Him in your darkest moments, repent of your sins, and be reborn into a new life! This can happen ANYWHERE – even a nasty old abandoned house that smells like pee!!!! Yes it is important that Christians gather together for worship – but not necessary to salvation! You can feel His presence anywhere, from a grand cathedral to your own bedroom. He loves you, and all he wants is you to repent from your sins – and just love and trust Him!

It is hard to get out from the pre-conceived notions of who God is that we were taught in our youth – I was brought up strict Roman Catholic by grandparents who believed that if you even VISITED another denomination’s church you would go to hell! girl_devil.gif

–noun 1.a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.2.a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion. 3.the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions. 4.the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion. 5.the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.6.something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice. 7.religions, Archaic. religious rites.8.Archaic. strict faithfulness; devotion: a religion to one’s vow

The defenition of religion is not ambigious, your defenition is not a correct one. I would suggest that preaching inacurately will not aid your conversion attempts. 🙂

Jesus was AGAINST the religious Pharisees and Saducees! You can call it religion, Christianity, whatever you wish – it is all about Jesus and His blood that was shed for you, period. No amount of incense,praying to idols, saying rosary beads etc. will save you – just the SHED BLOOD OF CHRIST. God is not after sacrifice, but a humble heart and contrite spirit.

is the world gonna end in 2012?
