  • Right im probably going to be in bali for the next month, maybe two depending on what happens and who i meet, and then maybe to java to see my friends village and go in the jungle and see some nicer parts of bali, was then thinking of going to borneo and maybe jakarta to see what they’re like, would love to papua as well, but not sure if its in the right direction as i think i want to head north.

im wanting to find somewhere where i can get a house for a few months, was thinking it was going to bali, but its so touristy and all the clubs are total shit. was thinking of thailand, but heard that thats pretty much the same story (hopefully find some psy there tho! 😉

obviously dont mind the tourist trade as i am one! but just prefer it where it is not soo in your face. anyway if anyone has any ideas of nice places to go and chill for a few months in this general part of the world let me know!!!

    vietnammmm

ps if u go borneo u might see Poly.

All depends on what you’re after Process, all the tourist cities in SE Asia are going to be in your face – you’ll come across loads of white people in these areas.

From what I gather, the most unobvious place to have fun in SEA is Laos – again though, all depends what yuo want,..

Id say Thailand for what ur after, and it does offer verity. But I am biast cos I have been there

most SE Asian cities are more of a concrete jungle than England, they don’t have the environmental protection legislation that we do..

I would go to Borneo to look at wildlife, Be careful about health risks, and make sure your passport is in order in case you end up crossing a border as its split between three countries. there’s also sumatra – but don’t go taking acid and wandering off on your own in the rural areas, there are tigers and bears!

no acid left unfortunatly 🙁 but i think i have definatly learnt my lesson regards taking drugs on my own in random places. fuck doing that again!:hopeless:

its not the coming across white poeple or tourists really, im not really up for doing a bruce parry tbh, bit too full on! just want to stay away from places where all the tourists seem to want to act like they are all on a stag or hen party :crazy_diz:you_crazy:crazy::yakk:

what im after really is somewhere thats quite chilled, but got a music scene or at least be not to far from a city or town where i can find some decent parties. preferably outdoor! if i find a place like that i could see me staying there for a 2 or 3 months easy maybe longer.

but now thinking about java, then jakarta, then borneo as i would love to see some amazing wildlife, also the diving there is supposed to be really good.

then was just looking at a map and id quite like to go to the phillipines, although i know nothing about it at all, tbh dont really know that much about many places as this is my first time doing this sort of thing (wonder if theres any psy in the phillipines?) its either go there or go up through vietnam, cambodia then thaliand depending on if i find i nice place to stay for a few months, who knows.. its a hard life having to make these sorts of decisions! :weee:

    any recomendations let me know!

the Phillipines is a load of islands and half of it seems to be flooded or underwater at any one time. The other half is at war with various warring tribes and Al-Quaeda and that bit is definitely worth avoiding. Its easier to dodge floods than bombs and bullets!

I don’t think its got much in the way of nightlife or a party scene, its a very conservative religious nation (mostly Roman Catholic).

I’d ask my Fillipino work colleagues but I don’t always see them as they are operational staff and most are deployed to remote areas where there simply aren’t any local/British staff to do the work (looking after old people – bear in mind in some parts of Suffolk particularly villages the youngest people there are often 45 or more).

I think they mostly live in large extended family groups and socialise within them rather than “Western” ideas of nightlife..

    thats the phillipines out then!

    looks like kuala lumpur/vietnam/cambodia/thailand/laos then… :crazy_dru

KL is very built up. It is becoming a cross between West London, Shanghai and Tokyo with the heat turned up and way worse standards of driving. If you can remember the chase scene at the end of the Jackie Chan film Police Story 3 that is going form the suburbs into the centre of KL..

I could ask my mum what is around that area she lives in (a small suburb/town a bit like Stowmarket) but its pretty mundane TBH these days other than more random creatures turning up around the place. if you want to see the “jungle” bits of Malaysia you are better off in Sabah and Sarawak.

tbh visiting a malaysian version of stowmarket is pretty much the last thing i want to do!

    but its so adorable

there’s two bits of it – the more advanced built up part next to Singapore and Thailand and the more rural part bordering Indonesia. the advanced part is interesting to visit but very crowded and a lot more built up than many realise.

IMO people get incorrect ideas of SE Asia due to the amount of nature programmes shown on UK telly which are filmed in the rural / village areas – these are like what you see on telly but the rest of the area is croweded and polluted.

Nightlife is barely tolerated for foreigners, Chinese and other minorities but the Muslims are discouraged from it. There is sharia law as well but only for Muslims…

ironically there’s loads of ketamine in Malaysia!
