  • good evening from los angeles!

i am planning a trip to england this coming summer and i wanted some suggestions as to where i can find a rave. ive been to plenty in the states but from what ive seen and heard europe is the place to be for electro music which is why i would love to go. if you have any suggestions please let me know. thanks alot i truly appreciate it!

If you’re here in June try checking out the Glade Festival. It’s expensive but legal and very well produced. Best dance event in this country by far.

I dont think there are any big illegal parties here anymore, you may need to go to mainland europe for that. Someone else on here may be better to advise on that though cos i havent been to one for a while.

ofcourse there are big illegal parties in england still – just think of UKTEK in Dale. It was fucking sik! and im hoping UKTEK 2011 will be even bigger and even better!

Not only are there still some raves in some parts of the UK, the remaining big parties in other EU countries are very often not actually illegal. When/if they are they often get closed down very harshly with armed cops or in some cases gendarmes (paramiltary cops) using CS-gas and other nasty methods rarely used in the UK.

There is also as much surveillance on organisers, and penalties for organising an illegal event can be even harsher than UK because of a different legal system used in some EU nations where criminal and civil law is more strongly linked and a lack of a statute of limitations (so people can be, and sometimes are, busted for raves years after they happened!)

in reality most of the big Euro-events are tolerated by the authorities and the locals, often due to the organisers paying landowners for the use of the area and making sure at least basic health and safety procedures are present.

In some cases Councils actively assist people to put them on, even spending a certain amount of public money to do so.

In the whole EU we all have an overall right to free expression, balanced against others rights not to be distressed or inconvenienced by this (such as by noise, traffic or our public funded health services being overstretched by dealing with extra emergency incidents) – so any gathering (even in UK) only becomes illegal when it causes other people problems…

Like i said, i’ve not been to one for a while, but how big do you call big?

And the fact that this question was posted on a dance forum, a week ago, and has only recived two suggestions speaks volumes.

That depends what you’re looking for really, there’s a lot of places to go in London that will give you a decent night that close at 6am (Fabric, Ministry of Sound, etc.). From what I hear Ministry of Sound isn’t averse to keeping the doors open longer if the crowd doesn’t want to leave. They are however quite expensive if you’re not using the illegals. Festivals on the other hand are a different story, there’s the mainstream ones like Creamfields, Global Gathering and Gatecrasher and others. Depends entirely on what you’re looking for.

All depends on wot kind of music your looking for!

The big festivals are all about mainstream dance music with big names and huge amounts of people.

The smaller festivals are all about the underground dance music and very closely linked to the free party scene which is no way shape or form finished. Festivals like Sensi-fest, Symmetry, and Organic play all the new electro and techno that is coming out and they are attended by the free party heads from all over and also ravers who dont go to free parties. The atmosphere at the smaller festivals is realy good, everybody knows eachother because we meet up atleast once a month for a good old hoe down infront of a rig!:group_hug

Big night clubs play alot of house and electro but im not to fond of the atmosphere you get in a night club due to the inevitable fact that you will get people in there who arnt your average raver and more of rude abusive piss head from town.

There has been UKTEK every year for a long time, last year the was EGGTek which was big, SCUMTEK in london happens every couple of months, not including a number of multirig parties that happen there on a regualr basis.
Smaller illeagle parties happen every weekend all over the country.

The number of people who attend raves has fallen since the days of 20,000 people driving round the magic roundabout, these days you wont see more then 5000 people at a rave anywhere in this country.

Hey, I’ll be coming into London the last week of March and will be in the Netherlands the first week of April. I am a NY raver. I am wondering if anyone could provide me with specific info, feel free to PM me, on any free parties (we call them outlaw parties in NY 🙂 ) happening in or around London or the Netherlands. Or how one would go about getting this info once in Europe. It would be greatly appreciated. I’d also be interested in any legal festivals or parties that are suppose to be good. Lastly I’d take any club suggestions but this is more a last resort because like one poster already commented the club scene always has that non raver feel to it. Much Love

I’d say Bristol for club nights. Sound people, huge variety of music, fatty rigs (shameless self-promotion

    > Neverlution ), an absolute essential to visit is The Black Swan on Stapleton Road. It’s the most insane club on the planet.

I’d say Devon and Wales are the best places for outdoor free parties. Beautiful surroundings, good people, good vibes, maybe a bit too much fidget house but the rest makes up for it.

Enjoy your times mate, if you do come to Bristol then PM me and I’ll let you know of any good nights on

Brighton has been good for as long as i can remember. parties on most nights if you look in the right places. certain parts of norfolk are supposed to be good too although i have not yet been

    thetford forest! beautiful locations there!

Yeah thetford parties are phat, beautiful place!

oxford used to be good no idea now

I wouldn’t suggest north england Barnsley or sheffield, really gone down hill in the last few years, full of electro heads with no sense of fashion, even the student night has gone down hill.
