  • At home / studio / workshop (VFR EPC1)

4 x win XP machines (2 old desktops, a laptop with kaput accu (so it runs always on 230V mains {PSU, that I used for my electronics stuff and arduino programming, also a Samsung netbook used for radio signal decodes)
2 x Win 7 (this desktop + a “newer” laptop (given to me by my mum as she bought it in Malaysia and the HD and accu were knackered from the poor mains electric in that country when she was there (its better now)
1 x Debian or Ubuntu (another old laptop, I forget which desktop Linux OS it has, it has some good electronics design software but I am not brainy enough to work it properly yet ( takes some time to (re)learn some stuff, I am not even 100% sure how to get arduino AVR software to it and not got the space for it in the workshop)
1 x Centos custom PABX (telephone-exchange), that is in the roofspace

At work (sometimes referred to as VFR EPC2 as occasionally I process some audio in my lunch hour)

2 x Win XP pro machines in my office for my daytime work (accounts database, and other boring office stuff)
1 x Centos based PABX (another telephone exchange)
various other XP and Win 7 desktops.

mobile devices that are not laptops

1 x Archaos android based internet radio player (flaky sometimes and battery not very strong but good sound for small squawkbox devixe)
1 x Blackberry Torch 9900 (yes I know its old and uncool but survives being dropped on the deck when I am in confined space checking telephone circuits and making test calls, if they make “everything proof Android device with keyboard” that easily works like a mobile phone I might one day buy one..

VFR EPC3 Nederland (de geheime ganzenschuur) where VFR Europe normally plays out from

This a VPS which really is located in Groningen (this happened again by coincidence, even better that all the electricity to power it is eco friendly) ! it is 64bit ubuntu server but commandline only interface (other than the web based frontend)

ratsnest23 is a VPS in Germany, Centos x64 which gets used for testing stuff for both work and my personal projects

I’m currently using the latest version of android, but I have Mac snow leopard as well on me phone. Its probably Tue only Mac OS I’ve used that I like.

Same for me Bunsen, except since I lost my Android I never got a new one. I’ve gone back and forth from Linux to Windows, personally I like Windows 8.1 most so far as far as Windows and Linux wise I’m favorable to openSUSE and now Kali linux Backtrack R3, probably the KDE one. Gnome may be more sleek and appealing, but KDE is more practical and powerful when you really know how to make use of it. I’m thinking of installing Kali on my laptop when I get it, instead of openSUSE or Windows 8 but not sure yet, all depends on what languages I want to use to program with and what uses generally I am going for. Also, if I write a lot of stuff I would want Windows, as it is best for that. If I ever decide to get into Java (Sun Java, not JS) I would definitely stick with open-source.

    Kali Linux anyone?

I know how to use all of these OS’s but I know iOS inside out, Android inside out, Blackberry is pretty interesting and I’m running Windows 8.1 on my desktop and tablet. I’m pretty open to new OS’s except for Color OS – the one that comes with the OPPO phones? They have a lot of stock Android on there and I will be the first to admit that I have no skills according to programming my own phone. Plus the warranty issue is another thing. I read several places where the warranty is less than a year because of the all the programming you can do. The phones might be only $300 at the most, but it’s not worth it if I don’t get a warranty. Especially when these devices are shipped from overseas and no one in the US specializes in them ya know?

Oh BTW I am using iOS as my primary phone. I have the 6+.

Windows computing devices, iOS for mobile.

I find that W8.1 has the worst app selection I’ve ever seen and the apps that cost money to download are not all that great sadly. I would totally switch to a W Phone if it had an app store like Apple or Google. The UI on W Phones is seamless. They are genuinely beautiful devices and I just wish Microsoft would put some more effort into their phones, at least as much as they do into their interface on their desktops/laptops. It saddens me.

I chose two OS, Android and Windows (depending on a device). The answer is pretty simple: they are wide spread and are ok with many programs and files transfer. Moreover, it is easier to download applications on such OS, for example spying apps if you wanna spy on your girlfriend. I read at Check your boyfriend’s mobile device for cheating | Phonespyapps that such programs are compatible with Android and Windows and it is available to spy on another mobile or laptop. Moreover, almost all games go with these OS.
