  • I know There isnt any elections coming up at the moment but thought it would be good to get an idea of peoples political stance.

    TBH none of them

the current British Government system reinforces existing power and class structures – and corrupts decent people into wanting to dominate others

If I had to I would want the Greens but in a coalition with a socialist or social democratic political party within which young(er) people and those who did not go to public school/oxbridge etc are genuinely empowered (i.e not Blue Labour!)

Extreme green politics can be more socially conservative than the Tories – and the Green party power structures are just as dominated by Oxbridge types and middle class middle englanders.

i disagree with the whole idea of party politics

Got to agree with you to a certain extent, green party are my favourites due to their stance on greening economics, but i also prefer the policies of other partys if there was a mixture of if a few then i would vote them for sure but at the moment its gotta be green as they seem to be the most proactive on global warming, which is a major issue that people in power ignore because by dismisssing it they get more money.

When are they gonna start looking after the people and not concern themselves over how much money they can earn

Last time I voted was 1983 it was the first time I voted and I voted Labour……….but in them days I was young and foolish and thought that voting 4 labour would be better then voting tory ,but then again voting 4 Adolf Hitler would probly b better than voting tory………or is he a member of the tory party? I cant quite remember hmmmmm!! or did he join the labour party? only time will tell……………………….there all wankers anyhow.

Probly vote Green if I could get a vote though………..

in !983 you probably can be forgiven as the Labour party genuinely was different then.

OTOH I do sometimes think “society gets the government it deserves”

People pretend to be “tolerant” but many are perfectly prepared to sacrifice freedom (particularly freedom of others who are doing things they don’t like) if it improves their lot.

With notable exceptions, often todays “activist/up for it raver” is tomorrows reactionary, (look at how much prejudice there is against someone in their 30s/40s continuing to live an alternative lifestyle)…

I’m for the idea of moving towards more stable sustainable and efficient economies as well as 0 growth. I’d slap hefty taxes on families with more than one car (sorry!), promote public transport and favour proper trade and globalisation where countries compete on a reasonably equal footing freely. Beyond that I’m also very strongly against imperialism and nuclear weapons (and nuclear power)… Having said that I regret to say I’m also pretty pessimistic about the likelyhood of any of the above ever coming about! 😥

TBH I think even the current capitalist societies are actualy being forced towards more sustainable lifestyles and greater social co-operation anyway because the environment is actually fighting back.

My worries are more that if eveything is “left to market forces” this change will only occur in the wake of a major global conflict and a few serious environmental incidents, and there is a paradox that in doing so our nations – all of them – may be forced towards social (if not economic) conservatism and less “freedom” in order to ensure the equitable distribution of resources; with less and less emphasis on enjoyment and happiness as survival becomes a priority…

Its all too little too late in my opinion!

TBH I thought exactly like that in 1986

it was that year when I realised science, technology and conspicious consumption could be dangerous (before I thought that everything was cool, we had music, computers, gadgets etc..)

I saw Chernobyl go bang on TV, the space shuttle explode; also in the 80s we were genuinely scared nuclear war could happen (there were at least 3 times it came close to that).

Also I did not start taking drugs until 1988 (they weren’t that easy to get in the 1980s either!) so I did not have any escape mechanism; I had to face up and think about these things and if there was a better solution.

Of course the human race just about survived and “progressed”; but it was only because people started actualy worrying about the future that things get slightly better.

I don’t think there is going to be a complete destruction of the human race;(the big companies have too much invested in the current world infrastructure to want to see it destroyed by a global conflict) but if we are not careful we could end up in a situation where the survivors regret the fact they survived!
