Why is it more offensive than an insult against yourself?

I tend to ignore it but my family has Irish roots and there’s about 300 of us. I get the arse very quickly if someone takes the piss out of my family. For me it’s the honour of my family, might sound cheesy but if someone i don’t know takes the piss then i soon let em know i ain’t happy, god help em if i’m out with me family as well! :laugh_at:

It’s as stated above

I am of Scottish / Irish blood too and talking ill of peoples family – is just not acceptable – where I come from.

I don’t disrespect anyone’s family, ever.

I argue /debate/ banter with the person in front of me and with that person alone.

my family are irish aswell! and yeah theres about 300 of em! i think anything said on tinterweb has to be taken with a pinch of salt,life on sj has proven that! peepole can sit behind a screen and give it charlie big potateoes all they want but who really cares its what you think that matters innit!and no faceless person can ever taint that

I think it depends,
my mates (who actually know me and my family) often take the piss – but we know its banter – and they know when to stop or when they are sailing too close to the wind,

however if ppeople do it who dont know me or my family they can fuck right off,

I wont stand for it and will defend em, even if they are all a bunch or mentalists, they are my bunch of mentalists 😉

and I think the who ‘your mum’ thing is more of a boy thing? I went to all girls school and dont remember it being used there

My family is pretty screwed Irish Australian Mother, old mans had a Welsh mother but born in the Yeman & grew up their…….l love the family history & can understand why people get upset with “yo mama” & family related comments……..

i personally don’t have an issue with it…..other thing’s would upset me more….

Its been so playground on here all day here’s a little more…

To add to that…you can’t deny that some of these are quite funny..

It’s gutter level humour, in the very poorest of tastes and it has no place in a discussion – between decent human beings with a working moral compass.

I never let anything bother me on the internet other than midget porn. People can give it the big un on the net but i guarantee if you were face to face they’d soon back down! netwise, it’s just banter to me! 😉
