Doin the usual xmas with friends – I get to do the cooking this year though (so I’m going the whole hog and attempting a medieval 5 bird roast… Will be interesting to see if I can pull it off :weee:)

read somewhere that you lot are allowed to eat swans by invoking some ancient Viking / Scandinavian law predating the Act of Union…

    😆

Ye – we don’t believe in having to consult wi ur sassenach queenie type tae shoot something edible :lol_crash

Not gonna be doing swan though (thats usually in 7 or 10 bird roasts) – biggest it gets is turkey (partly cos swan wouldn’t fit in the oven 😉 )

how do you get the bones out whilst preserving the shape of the bird? Always wondered that..

Very careful knife work, use of stuffing, and linen thread and a needle to sew the holes shut… Most of the “shape” bones that aren’t in the main cavity can be dislocated and simply pulled through (thus preserving their shape) if you remember to cut the tendons properly…. And as long as you have the skin, you have the general shape of the bird…

This holiday season me and hubby will be going to San Diego to visit his family – usually go out quite a bit so there’ll be plenty o pics! :bounce_fl

I loved San Diego when I visited in Spring… Old Town was really interesting and we had some lovely food and cocktails there. Are there many decent clubs in the main part of the city?

This xmas I shall be doing the same as usual… family meals galore.

Hmm, couldn’t really tell ya about the clubs, as we’re always out shopping with Mom or eating out…..and now that Chris doesn’t drink or smoke….. I like Shakespeare’s Pub! I’ll be thinkin of y’all if we go there this yr! 😉

The only ‘club’ we ever went to was called ‘Lips’ – a co-worker of Chris’ sis invited us…not really my kinda thing (it’s drag queens!)

This year on the way to Cali we are stopping off to see the Grand Canyon! :weee: Chris was planning it all day yesterday on the computer……soo excited!
