Im in Haarlem now untill wednesday then off to Berlin 😀 I got a couple of pics from the free party i went to last night before my camera ran out of battery. grr. the pics dont do the party any justice! free partying in holland is soo much better than england, in my opinion. no police attention (which im actually quite suprised about considering all whats going on in that particular ‘scene’) free from attitude. EVERYONE was friendly and wanted to speak to you. and it went on unitll around 2pm today.
TBH it doesn’t seem that much different from areas of England outside London 10 or so years ago.
anywhere in the EU, cops won’t bother with hedonistic squatters in a disused building (especially if the bulk of them are young middle class bohemian types) as long as there aren’t major issues with noise/disturbance or links to serious/organised violent crime.
from reading the various sides of the NL squat debate, even many cops didn’t think outlawing the squats was that smart an idea, especially as the conservatives preferred alternative (a free market-based low cost rental initiative) is at present only allowed to people who are NL citizens and can, speak, read and write the Dutch language, causing obvious housing problems for immigrant communities.
