well yeah it did actually, we got a hung parliament, a coalition, and a referendum on the alternative vote next May. If people get out and vote on that then next election the lib dems will have a larger share of the power, and be able to push for more electoral reform.. and so on.

I realised after i put this that you wanted lib dem’s so in that way i guess .. for you .. it did work. but then there are many others that didn’t vote for them and even tho labor got more votes they still got into power.

My freedom allows me to not give a shit about the wankers in power. all they want is a nice fat pension at the end of the day. fuck them.

    Disclaimer – I don’t like labor .. just making a point.

I don’t see your point, even if we completely removed the lib dems from the picture labour would still not be in power because the conservatives spanked them. The conservatives got significantly more votes than labor and the conservatives hold most of the power in the new government. The coalition was definitely the ‘best fit’ solution to reflect the votes, given the current electoral system.

If it went on votes and there had to be a coalition then the votes say conserveatives and labor had the top two amounts of votes .. so if we are voting for the leading parties these are the two that should be in govenment not the people who came third as less people voted for them.

Labour and the Tories united? Wouldn’t of worked mate. They hate each other with a passion.

I’m not saing it would or wouldn’t of worked … each party when in govenment on there own doesn’t work … the point I’m making is that voting or signing pertitions doesn’t nesaseraly do jack shit .. as at the end of the day the govenment will find some way of doing what they want with out asking.

    cheers for that –

signed up and commented, some interesting reads!

The people who came in third arent ‘in power’ though they just form a slice of the coalition. The tories are really in charge they just have to compromise in a few places because they didnt get enough votes. Labour was always going to be the opposition, gordon brown knew this so didnt even bother trying to form a coalition, it would have been completely unworkable and everyone knows it.

Sure the system isnt perfect and sure politicians will always try to pull the wool over peoples eyes, but as time goes on they get away with less and less bullshit. Thanks to the information age we know what colour their poop is in the morning and can call them up on it.

If you don’t give a shit about how the country is run and like things the way they are then fair enough, but if the state of affairs pisses you off and you think you are powerless to do anything about it then you are wrong

Neither .. I just don’t think voting or pertitioning will help in the long run.

obviously, thats why the suffragette movement was such a waste of time..

i dont think its really about ‘whos in power’

more … which ‘collection of ideas’ ie, people that agree on something but not everything.. for example atheists denying existence of god but being completely different in every other aspect…. anyways.. which ‘collection or coalition of ideas’ has the most seats to be able to push their legislation through. in this case, the tories and libs agree on enough things to become a coalition of ideologies, and push stuff through parliament as they have a majorityy

That was quite along time ago and times change. And that wasn’t really voting or pertitioning, more hardcore protesting.
But even protesting in this day and age can do more damage then good.
