glade 2006.. if thats classed as a rave..
other than that it was legal rave one of the slinkys night in late 06′
Can’t pinpoint the first rave as was already heavily into drugs festivals and free loud music by the time raves took off.
However spiral tribe, smeatharpe, castle morton, exodus, biology, genesis etc, etc. Fuck the old days-now is where its at.
1991 a werehouse on Pump St Blackburn it got busted by old bill who surounded it and put full beams n sirens on. I thought it was part of the music and a lighting effect.:laugh_at:
didnt realy get into rtaves n till 93 though was still into hippy music n manchester music till then.
what do u mean then?
Somerset I think,maybe Avon,cant remember.was yonks ago lol
what do u mean then?
I hate wallowing in how much bigger and better things were. The free festivals in the summer were well big and organised. We used to get a festival list at the start of spring with a LANDLINE number on it and go out most weekends all over the country. I love the way the scene has survived and spread across europe etc. It feels a lot more diy now, and the music is more diverse. Back then it took ages for for electronic music and ravers to be accepted at these things. I have to live for the now and take things as they come, enjoy new music, drugs etc. Also pills used to cost a small fortune back then.
I think the available resources (such as technology) and drugs are definitely better now, but the social atmosphere of newer parties isn’t as good (but I only mean new as in from 2005 onwards)
IMO the free party scene had its peak from 1997-2004 when the economy was booming – babylon didn’t actually give as much of a fuck about it as normal people were too distracted by the dot com boom and easy credit/loads of consumer goods etc to whinge about what we were getting up to in fields.
remember how even tony blair was biggin up cool britannia and having tea with people what admitted to doing drugs openlu and are now seen as junkie scum even if they are pop stars?
Today, parties, when they happen, are still OK but they were taken for granted during the recent good times and ravers brought a lot of the backlash upon themselves.
The one change I have noticed is that as recently as 5-6 years ago you could go round a party smiling and chat to randoms and meet loads of new people, and everyone was buzzing and happy, even in SE England and some parts of London!
nowadays even at a fluffy Norfolk “bumpkin” party you are liable to just get blanked or people are really blunt and abrupt if you aren’t part of their clique (I suppose people have to become cynical though as there are a fair few thieves/blaggers about these days)
its still pretty fluffy up north! i quite often go to parties on my own cause loads of my mates are so lame when it actually comes to going to parties. i just got pissed of with them saying i cant be bothered, so i just thought fuck it and went on my own. loads of freindly faces to talk to up north and now when i go i recognise loads of people. cant be bad.:weee:
Pumpkin the Tunes- Halloween rave in Cavenham about 98/9 when I was about 15ish. Didn’t go again till the start of 2002.
I was at a DnB night in Ipswich that my mates were playing at/ Got a flyer for an X-party the next night. Went to the meet point in my local tow, and found out it was about 15mins from my house- rounded up loads of people and headed there.
Was on Stanton Airfield- about 3 warehouses with 3 massive rigs- proper lasers, light show, etc. Convoys kept turning up from all over the country- shed loads of people.
I think a few faces on this sight may have memories of this party……….
Was a fucking banger. Cue 20 weekends partying in a row!!
I think a few faces on this sight may have memories of this party……….
and yet it didn’t even get any negative publicity in the papers or mentioned on the police/council/neighbourhood watch websites (there is a mention of one in that area in ’05 but I think what you must be referiing to happened long before)
WTF happened here?
There was a brief mention in the local paper. And you have to remember at this point the whole of TV was on a similar shut down.
In a nutshell- the same sites got rinsed, locals got fed up. Victims of our own success.
I was really gutted to leave the scene to go to uni right in the middle of it’s hey-day (2003).
do you mean TV as in thames valley area (because it wasn’t that locked down back then ) or that Anglia TV and BBC East and the papers deliberately didn’t report on raves as it was a “elephant in the room” issue and maybe the cops didn’t want to give it the “oxygen of publicity” as thatcho once said?
As in Thames Valley… well it was by the time I got to any of thoses parties (2006ish). Whendid they get the Rave Squad? That’s always a bad omen….
Around 2004/05. before the airwave radios as some of us used to listen to their antics on scanner
The term “rave squad” was and TBH is just spin.
you did have cops monitoring websites in their spare time and “armchair vigilanté” locals passing on info from SJ and here,
but all the rave squad actually consists of is just a few extra bobbies in a couple of “serial” vans with “PSU” gear (what is normally called a “riot” van) that were available for the whole area to use for any large scale incident of anti social behaviour, This included the usual pissheads you’d get fighting in town, particularly after football.
these sorts of anti social behaviour unit actually existed before the rave lockdown!
What happened though is because of the behaviour and attitudes changing, the overuse of venues in both regions, and the NHS flagging the increasing binge drinking/drugs problem in Britain, the gap closed between pub/club/townie type idiocy and the rave scene and parties went from being viewed as a rather quirky bit of youthful mischief to medium level crime.
this is also why the cops can argue to the news media they aren’t spending loads more money, as those extra coppers are already out on the streets anyway…
i tried to do this from manc to oxford .. they check tickets on that line .. if you want to lock your self in the bogs .. thats up to you haha
