if all the immigrants in this country downed tools for just one day, we’d be on a standstill. ’nuff sed. borders are shit anyway. nationalism causes 90% of problems in this world.

exactly, i do not like the fact that im going to find it hard to get a job, cos some foreign person can do it for much cheaper, Although i do not think that they should be sitting on there asses,

i think restriction is the only way to go

    bush

might be worth reading some of the other points in the thread

there are restrictions here and the wider problem is “some countries are more foreign than others” due to political manoeuvring.

Yes the competition between young people in Europe and beyond for jobs is ruthless – but that is the price we pay for being able to do stuff like have a consumer society and cheap goods (as has been said many times in this thread many immigrants are doing jobs people don’t want to do)

Also teknivals, festivals and the dance music scene is as internationalist and multicultural as you could ever get, whether people like it or not…

you’ve had the benefit of one of the best education systems in the world, for free, until the age of 18. why would you find it hard to get a job?

how would a non-british citizen be ‘able’ to work for less? immigrants have the same living costs as anyone else. my wife, for example, has to pay the same rent, taxes, NI, bills as I do. How could she do a job and get paid less than anyone else?

you come across as confused about reality and suckered by right wing propaganda. you live in fear (of not finding a job) and it’s easy to blame someone else for your own failings.

Note to self: no chairs for immigrants

to expand on what General Lighting has already pointed out….

right wingers traditionally attack immigration, european union, etc, but are responsible for it

it is right wing politics that encourages migration… the liberal markets that are idealised by right wing depend on flexible labour. Norman Tebbit (one of Thatcher’s front benchers) famously said about unemployment “get on yer bike” (and find a job).

people have no choice but to travel from poorer areas to richer areas and send money back to invest in those poorer areas

one of socialism’s great failings was that it has always been nationalist (which is ironically a typically right wing trait)… strong union movements that demand higher working conditions / pay in one country have almost always failed to support unionist / worker movements in other countries. this has lead to the capitalist powers shifting their ‘means of production’ to non-unionised countries

the right wing demand cheap goods and labour, then attack the result of their demands (which is migration). people who support the view that migrants should face restrictions should realise that the products they buy and services they use and the economy that relies on that must also be restricted

we live in a rich country because we ‘use’ migration

boring old politics i know, but i get really fucked off with ignorant people bleating on about how bad immigrants are. if that’s your view, get a clue!

my opinion is the more the merrier! we should all travel more

    Interesting thread.
Anyone who reads my posts knows my liberal politics, but I’m increasingly facing something that is turning me . . .
    An example:-
Looking after a old, very ill, lady, and gradually build up a good relationship. She is patient and has a great sense of humour in terrible circumstances.
But one day she starts talking about immigration. About how they are here stealing our homes, our jobs, coming into the country pregnant so that we have to look after them and then to top it off how they bring AIDS here so that we pay for treatment whilst they infect good honest Britons with this plague. aaarrrrgggghhhh! FFS !
I felt literally sick and wouldn’t have been more surprised if her head had fallen off and it was filled with spiders!
Its an attitude I hear more and more, I blame the tabloids and its making me want to head a bloody benevolent dictatorship! I would ban all these evil, ignorant, hate-spewing pieces of crap :bounce_fl :bounce_fl :bounce_fl
I do see the contradiction and am aware of my hiporacy but bloody hell!
I counter softly where I can, challenging these idiots, providing accurate information and alternative view points but it does make me so f**king angry and I don’t see a way out!

Oi Tarifa get back to Tarifa you bloody iberian immigrant 😉 stop coming on here and stealing our threads:wink:

yeah but you can’t really blame old people though. my gran is as nicer person as you’ll meet, but racist – it’s ignorance more than anything. the generation they grew up in was one where mild racism was the norm really…

i have much more of a problem with people who grew up in more recent generations who are racist – because in todays society, that is pure hate. ignorance cant be argued for that.

Oh god I’m not saying its old people! That was not my point, should’ve left out the age.

This type of attitude spans every generation, I’ve heard this nonsense from all ages, and it seems to be increasingly common :you_crazy

I just find this world view frightening and it makes me sick.

Good point about the different eras we’ve grown up in tho B, and as for your gran – well we’re none of us perfect and its never to late to learn 😉

    sorry misunderstood slightly :weee:

i dont think stuff like 7/7 helped at all with racism in the UK… neither did the government… paranoia innit.

n your absoblutely rite, racism is shockin. it seems to be on the increase unfortunately, and very rapidly. in 2001 (or 02, cant remember) when i started secondary school, noone was racist in the slightest – barr a few idiots.

my little brothers years and younger though… god its everywhere, its seen as funny to be racist. n not in the ironic way either :you_crazy
