A morbidly obese female orang-utan from South Africa weighing 100 kg (15 stone) has arrived at Monkey World near Wareham in Dorset.
The ape, called Oshine (pronounced osheen), was offered to the rescue centre when her owner realised she could no longer look after her.
She travelled the 10.5 hour flight to the UK in a specially constructed transport cage.
Oshine has now been put on a strict diet of fruit and vegetables.
“It will take a few months for Oshine to reach a more appropriate weight and then she will be ready to meet a new man and consider a family of her own,” said Monkey World co-founder Dr Alison Cronin MBE.

BANANAS OFC!!!! :you_crazy
in their native lands they eat whatever the folk of Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei haven’t already gobbled up. this doesn’t actually leave much left over, which is why orang-utans are becoming endangered…
[EDIT]
Afaik they are naturaly suposed to eat fruits and leaves off of trees .. but I would Imaging most of the trees are chopped down now where they would live in the wild and alot are brought out of there natural habitat for pets and other reasons. One thing I saw was about this orang-utan that had seen it’s mother killed for some stupid reason, I think to protect crops or something and had been locked up in this tiny cage for ages. The poor thing had pretty much gone a bit mental in there and had to be rehabilitated after being rescued. Orang-utan’s are one of the most emotional of the primates and apart from humans the mothers stay with there kids the longest, up untill mid to late teens iirc! This one was only a year or two old.
